Ditch the Resolution...Change Your Lifestyle!

It’s that time of year when New Year’s resolutions are made for many reasons to include losing weight and living a healthier lifestyle. The year starts with excitement and energy to finally achieve that ever-looming goal of making amazing changes. By mid to the end of February this energy and the initial excitement start to fade. This happens because of setting very high expectations and unrealistic goals of losing a large amount of weight in a short period of time. This year stop the insanity and try something new. Take it one step at a time changing behaviors that will lead you to achieve your goals. Losing weight is easy, maintaining the weight loss is the real challenge.

The key is understanding there is no one quick solution, magic pill or shake that will greatly contribute to weight loss and improvement of your health and wellness. It all comes down to behaviors that are done consistently over time.  According to the Weight of the Nation website, “The U.S. diet industry generates over $60 billion in annual sales!  Yet most people who diet struggle to lose weight and keep it off.”  The key is to not diet, but change the way you Eat, Think, and Move by establishing new behaviors for life. This is easier said than done, but it is achievable with the right Health and Wellness Coaching program.

Start 2017 off with a realistic plan that includes progressive changes to achieve a healthier lifestyle. Make small daily behavior changes over time that become a permanent lifestyle. Many “diets” often ask you to stop eating everything you normally eat and switch to drastically different and unsustainable nutritional choices. This upsets the body physically and emotionally and sets yourself up for failure.

Permanent weight loss comes from making the internal transformation that translates to the outside. But it’s more, much more, than weight loss.  It is YOUR state of health and wellness. We cannot see what is going on inside our bodies.  We cannot see what the food we are eating is doing to our internal body systems until serious conditions show up.  The body is the perfect machine. If it does not get the fuel it needs it will operate less efficiently. It knows what systems are essential and which ones can function at less than optimal performance. The major hurdle is that the damage is slow so we are not aware of issues until something serious happens.

Life is a pay me now or pay me later situation. Pay now by eating healthy, exercising, and cleaning your environment, or pay later with chronic conditions, pain and perhaps relegated to a hospital bed. The choice is yours to make, so choose wisely.

In health and happiness, Kim Meyers
