Connected to the chain #16 | Vivien-Anabel Herzig

Vivien-Anabel Herzig works for #TenneT as an Operational Buyer in the Supply Chain Management-Direct Current-Large Projects Offshore team. Outside of work, Vivien-Anabel enjoys spending time with her friends and family, which allows her to maintain a good work-life balance. Sport has always been an important part of her life and she has been active in handball for over 15 years. This multi-faceted lifestyle is also reflected in her work, where she faces new challenges and tasks every day.

What are your biggest challenges in your day-to-day work and what makes Supply Chain Management (SCM) a unique place to work at?

In my day-to-day work, I face different challenges every day. One of the most important is to always be reliable and responsive to our internal customers. This is crucial because it often happens that materials or services have to be ordered at short notice and under time pressure. Then it is my job to concentrate fully on the urgent issues. This can mean shifting priorities quickly to ensure that the project is not put at risk.

What is your role? What are you responsible for?

I work as an Operational Buyer in the team led by Lucas Hauschild and Tim Braue. In this role I am partly responsible for the BorWin5 and BorWin6 projects. These two projects are major offshore initiatives involving the construction and maintenance of two 900 megawatt offshore wind turbines. My responsibilities cover a wide range of aspects, from sourcing and coordinating resources to monitoring and ensuring the efficiency of the project process. In this role, I am constantly interacting with various stakeholders and contributing to the delivery of these strategically important projects.

What energises you for your work in the morning?

Knowing that I work in an excellent team gives me enormous energy and motivation every day. Each task I take on is unique and individual. No two days are the same and each challenge brings its own nuances and learning opportunities. This variety in my daily tasks keeps my work exciting and enriching.

Understanding the purpose of my work is particularly motivating. I am always aware that every order, every contract and every step we take in our projects contributes directly to the energy transition. Knowing that every action I take is helping to create a more sustainable future gives me a deep sense of satisfaction and purpose.

How is your balance with working from home vs. at the office?

I am very happy that we now have the opportunity to return to the office and work side by side with our colleagues after the COVID-19 pandemic. The period of remote working has brought many challenges, and while it has had its benefits, there are aspects of office work that cannot be fully replaced by digital communication.

For me, face-to-face interaction is a central part of my work. Face-to-face conversations, the immediate exchange of ideas and spontaneous brainstorming with colleagues are aspects that I believe help to create a dynamic and creative working environment. This personal connection not only encourages collaboration, but also strengthens team spirit and morale.

That's why I take every opportunity to be in the office regularly. I believe this presence is important to nurture relationships, collaborate effectively and foster a sense of belonging and common purpose. This return to normality, to face-to-face communication and interaction, is something I value highly and consider an essential part of my daily professional life.
