Connected to the chain #14 | Lucas Hauschild

Lucas Hauschild is Lead of the Supply Chain Management for 700/900MW Offshore Projects. When he's not working, he can often be found refereeing football on the pitch or enjoying a variety of outdoor activities, such as hiking, cycling and running.

What is your role within SCM? What are you responsible for?

I am in charge of the Supply Chain Management team, which is responsible for all procurement-related activities for the 700 MW and 900 MW #offshore projects. This includes managing a great cross-border team spread across three locations: Arnhem, Bayreuth and Lehrte/Hanover.

What is the biggest difference from your previous job?

I used to work as an "SCM-DC referent" and in my current position as Team Lead, the wide range of different topics with many stakeholders has not changed - much like the iSCM programme in my previous role. I really like this diversity, which keeps you attentive and adaptable, and I'm glad it's still the case. What has changed though, is the opportunity that team leadership gives me: I can empower and develop people both professionally and personally, and that fits perfectly with my ambition and personal #leadership style.

What difficulties did you have to overcome during the iSCM project?

"Due to the significant growth in sourcing volumes in combination with a sellers-market-dynamic,  we needed to rethink and adapt our work structures and behaviour."

The overarching goal of iSCM was to prepare our organization for the tremendously growing sourcing volumes across all areas of TenneT. Therefore we needed to adapt our sourcing strategies but also our mindset and our behavior towards our suppliers. In parallel to these internal developments we observe the need to become “Customer of choice” in consequence of a sellers-market-dynamic and being confronted with suppliers who can chose for whom to work. Therefore we aimed for a fair balance of risk share between TenneT and our suppliers, listen to them what is needed to become a more attractive business partner in order to ensure our required production/service capacities and establish a relationship based on partnership with our suppliers.

Before iSCM came into play, we lacked for example a clear structure of demand data. The necessary knowledge existed within the organisation, but only at the #project level and not in an overarching portfolio or category context. Yet we have so many talented employees with brilliant ideas and know-how, and this potential should be used in a targeted and structured way. So our goal was to #network the right people at #TenneT so that we go together in the same direction.

I strongly believe that we need to actively approach the markets and strive for analytics-based control of our supply chains and risks.

How do you personally support the goals of SCM in your daily work?

My ambition is to build relationships on trust. At the core, Supply Chain Management is exactly that: listening carefully to people and trying to grasp the true meaning behind their words. This is what I aim for in my daily work.

What achievements in your job are you most proud of?

Besides the more business-oriented successes, such as the implementation of processes or adaptation of sourcing strategies, the real core of our lives lies in the human relationships. That's why it fills me with particular pride when I regularly receive feedback about the spirit of collaboration and supportive atmosphere within our team.

Dear Lucas, great interview with a very clear vision on how #SupplyChainManagement @ #TenneT is dealing with our ever increasing demand in a tight suppliers market. And you should not be too modest about your personal contributions for iSCM to prepare SCM even better for the #Energytransition ! Keep on going!
