Concrete HERitage: Fatima Mirzad is Paving the Way for Women in Construction

Meet Fatima Mirzad, a woman who’s breaking the mould of what a Construction Systems Product Manager is. In her nine years with Master Builders Solutions, she’s worked in various roles and countries, cementing herself in her current role as a powerhouse of technical knowledge and industry contacts.

Early Years

Fatima’s story began with a passion for numbers and problem-solving - a spark which earned her the nickname "math engine" during her early years. Her mathematical mind later led her to pursue an engineering degree, and upon graduation, she set her sights on the construction industry.

Professional Career

Entering the construction industry over twenty years ago, Fatima faced numerous challenges. The predominantly male environment presented multiple hurdles, with Fatima often finding herself as one of the few, if not the only, women on-site during early projects. Despite this, she recalls earning respect through her dedication and commitment to excellence. "Throughout my STEM career, I've worked on various job sites such as dams, petrochemical plants, underground tunnels, and offshore locations; however, despite being in male-dominated environments, I've earned respect through dedication and excellence”, she said.

A STEM Blueprint

Fatima’s story shows us all how women in STEM have the capability to move against the status quo. Her experience serves as a blueprint for aspiring professionals who may be questioning if STEM is a viable option for their professional careers.

 “True equality means recognising talent and passion without regard to gender. Rather than giving extra support to women at the expense of men, we should strive for a level playing field where everyone has equal opportunity to shine.
