Celebrating our Interns: Hospitality Internship Program
In honor of National Intern Day, we are highlighting our Hospitality Internship Program group (HIP), comprising eight talented students this year. HIP is a 10-week summer college career developmental program for undergraduate students that allows participants to explore a hospitality business pillar of their interest: Hotel Operations, Gaming, or Food & Beverage.
This year, our intern class hails from across the country, including a few local students from the University of Nevada – Las Vegas (UNLV). When asked why MGM Resorts was their internship of choice, many view the business as an industry leader and wanted to ensure they were set up for success as they explore new opportunities! Madison Hong, a senior at the University of Southern California, wanted to learn more about the hospitality industry and knew MGM was the place to do it. “Hospitality has always been a passion of mine, however, as a business major at school, I have never had the chance to gain knowledge about this industry,” she says. “As one of the most reputable powerhouses in the hospitality industry, I was attracted to the various roles as well as future opportunities that MGM Resorts International offers.”
During the 10-week program, students will gain hands-on experience, coaching within their respective fields, professional development opportunities, and more. Narumi Yui, a sophomore at UNLV, was previously employed by MGM as an on-call Special Events Representative and enjoys gaining more insight into different departments of the business. “Everyone I have met so far has been so nice and welcoming! I’m learning a lot about the different positions in casino marketing but also learning a lot about different properties through our internship Resort Knowledge Days, which has been so much fun.” As part of their internship, students have the opportunity to see what each of the MGM properties has to offer- from culture to operations to the incredible people they get to work with every day! Laura Meltzer, a senior at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, says, “Everyone who works at Park MGM is so kind and inviting, and it has really made me feel welcomed by the company.”
Whether it is gaming, entertainment, or hospitality, MGM Resorts is where you can find boundless growth working alongside great talent. Alexander Katsotis, a graduate student at the University of Florida, strongly believes this program will be beneficial to his career. “Considering this is my first experience with casino or hotel hospitality, it has been a great way to get my foot in the door in one of the most fun and rewarding industries out there.” Previous interns have advanced their careers further through full-time placement at MGM or participation in our next level of intern programs - the Management Associate Program (MAP) - following their graduation from HIP. We are so excited to watch these students thrive as they learn and grow into future industry leaders!
Happy National Intern Day! This is the start of something incredible.
