Career Calling.

Career Calling.

At EESI Remediation UK we are always on the look out for the best talent to join our passionate and energetic team, and this summer we are working in partnership with the University of the West of England's Summer Internship programme, to help give students valuable experience in the field, and offer support and advice from our experienced team.

Pete Doswell has joined us for the summer from the University of the West of England.

“When I left school, I was unsure of my life direction, but I knew I wanted to travel, so that’s what I did. In 2006 I spent some time in the Peruvian Amazon rainforest & was overwhelmed by the staggering array of biodiversity: every square centimeter was teeming with life! But I also witnessed some of the destruction caused by illegal logging and slash and burn agriculture.

I knew then that I wanted to work in the environment, but I was unsure in what capacity. Upon returning to Melbourne, my home at the time, some friends took me along to a local organic farm and environment park called CERES (where we were buying our weekly veg box from). It turned out that CERES was an awe-inspiring permaculture farm, built on land which had been remediated following long-term use as a landfill site.

I didn’t even know it was possible to do that kind of thing! I was so inspired by this that I decided to study Environmental Science at the University of the West of England when I returned to the UK a year later, so I could learn how it was done. At the age of 37 I thought I’d probably missed the boat to start a university course, but CERES and the Amazon proved me wrong!”
