Building a Solid Foundation

For a year, I have been "mentoring" a few software engineers who are in their final year in college or with a freshly minted degree or diploma. Through this journey, we explore various things and among them new software, programming languages and frameworks. On the way, I learned much and finding most of time having to unlearn and re-learn. What makes me able to keep the pace is because of my understanding of the fundamentals in computing especially in software development.

I am one who advocates that each "student" of the software engineering discipline should have a good grounding on fundamental concepts, protocols and frameworks. It helps in dealing with the barrage of technology shifts that our industry experiences.
