A Brave Move

A Brave Move

In 2016, I made the best move of my life - quitting my job to become an entrepreneur. This decision was fueled by the same courage and determination I had while working at great heights on high-rises. Despite the fear that accompanied this leap into the unknown, I ventured into uncharted territory with a patent for Safety Anchor Post, a concept unheard of until then.

Neil Gaiman once said, “When you’re scared but you still do it anyway, that’s Brave!” This quote perfectly encapsulates the essence of entrepreneurship - taking risks, facing fears, and forging ahead despite uncertainties. The journey from being an employee to an entrepreneur is not just about starting a business; it’s about embracing challenges, pushing boundaries, and believing in one’s vision even when others may not see its potential.

Leaving the security of a stable 33-year job to pursue entrepreneurship was a daunting prospect. It required stepping out of my comfort zone, facing uncertainty, and dealing with the fear of failure. However, it was precisely in these moments of fear and doubt that true bravery emerged. By acknowledging the fear but not letting it dictate my actions, I found the strength to push forward.

Entrepreneurial Validation and Support at International Trade Shows

When other entrepreneurs witnessed me at my first international trade show, their presence served as the validation I needed to affirm my entrepreneurial journey. Seeing individuals who were several steps ahead of me in their business ventures was a powerful reminder of the progress I could achieve. The experience highlighted the importance of surrounding oneself with like-minded individuals who possess a similar level of determination and resilience. Entrepreneurs who have faced similar challenges are often more than willing to extend a helping hand to those who are navigating the complexities of starting and growing a business.

Building a supportive community of fellow entrepreneurs and mentors is essential for long-term success in the business world. Surrounding oneself with individuals who share similar values, goals, and work ethic can create a network of support that fosters growth and development. Mentorship from experienced entrepreneurs can offer invaluable guidance, wisdom, and perspective that can help navigate challenges and capitalize on opportunities effectively.

Quitting a job to start a business is just the beginning; sustaining that business through ups and downs demands resilience, grit, and an unshakeable belief in your mission.
