Boost Your Employee Retention in the First 90 Days!

Boost Your Employee Retention in the First 90 Days!

Employee retention is a critical factor in any company's success. It's essential to keep your new staff members motivated, engaged, and satisfied during the first 90 days of their employment. According to research conducted by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the cost of losing an employee can range from 90% to 200% of their annual salary. Moreover, a BambooHR study found that 33% of new hires quit their job within the first six months with the majority leaving within the first 90 days.

So, here are some proven strategies to boost employee retention during the first 90 days.

Provide clear expectations and goals

According to a Gallup poll, only 50% of employees know what's expected of them at work. To avoid confusion and frustration, it's essential to provide your new hires with clear expectations and goals from the outset. Communicate your company's vision, mission and values and provide them with specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound (SMART) goals. Giving clear expectations can help your team stay focused and motivated.

Offer a comprehensive onboarding process

Glassdoor reported that companies with a robust onboarding process can improve new hire retention by 82%. This can include an introduction to the company culture, policies and procedures, as well as job-specific training. Supplying your new hires with a mentor or a buddy can also help them adjust to the new work environment and build relationships with their colleagues.

Feed frequent feedback

Regular feedback can help your staff stay motivated and engaged. A survey by Officevibe says 43% of highly engaged employees receive feedback at least once a week. Frequent assessments and comments can help your new hires understand how they're performing and identify areas for improvement. Positive comments can also boost their confidence and encourage them to continue doing a great job.

Offer growth and development opportunities

Delivering your new hires with development opportunities can help them feel valued and invested in the company's success. Offer training and development programs, mentoring and coaching to help your new recruits grow and develop their skills.

Create a positive work environment

A favorable work environment can help your employees feel happy and engaged at work. Create a safe space to work by recognizing and rewarding your employees' achievements, promoting work-life balance and fostering open communication and collaboration.

The first 90 days are crucial. Think of it as a sprint in a longer-term marathon. You need to lay a solid foundation for employees to get their footing and start hitting their stride before you can expect them to perform at their best. If employees aren't getting up to speed with everyone else, they're more likely to bow out.
