Battery developers eye Downtown | Centennial Yards taps financing | East Lake Golf Club's makeover

State officials have picked a development team for a project that would build an entertainment destination next to Mercedes-Benz Stadium. It's a few familiar names, reports Amy Wenk.

The Georgia World Congress Center Authority chose Atlanta development and investment firm Pope & Land Real Estate, Atlanta developer Fuqua Development and Minneapolis-based architecture firm Nelson Worldwide to repurpose the 11-acre Home Depot Backyard. It's the same group that developed The Battery Atlanta, the mixed-use project surrounding the Atlanta Braves' Truist Park.

Another commercial real estate scoop from Amy: The developer of Downtown's Centennial Yards made its first big ask to draw down incentives previously approved for the Gulch-reshaping project.

The board of Invest Atlanta, the city's economic development agency, gave unanimous approval to the developer to sell roughly $557 million worth of bonds and certificates to help finance its next 8-acre phase. City officials previously approved up to $1.9 billion of public financing for Centennial Yards. Invest Atlanta said there is no additional funding being allocated.

For the past year, East Lake Golf Club has been undergoing a restoration project that reaches into the past to set the course for the future with its annual signature event, the PGA Tour Championship. Richard Lawson takes an in-depth look at the restoration.
