2018

2018

With all the buzz and excitement for 2019, I decided to take some time to reflect on the past year.

The biggest change in 2018 for me has definitely been my transition from being a university student to a working adult. Before entering the workforce, some close friends have warned me that the corporate world can be harsh. Yet, I have experienced kindness and happiness in VMware on countless occasions. For that, I’m thankful to be part of a company that is so friendly (..yet ambitious).

I spent about 5 months in the Business Development team, covering the nascent market - ie. Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, etcetera. I witnessed how a country’s political climate and economical development can make doing business challenging. On a more personal level, it also hasn’t been easy adjusting to new cultures as I work with people from countries I have never even been to before.

However, these challenges seem to fade away once I start a call with the customers. I enjoy interacting with them and find it easy to connect despite our differences. The knowledge learnt during my training has come in useful as our conversations gravitate towards their IT environment & requirements. 🤓

With every call I make, I feel myself learning and developing. I hope that our customers benefit from these conversations as well - such as the ability to make a more informed business decision.

I know next year will be an even better year, as I slowly move to an Inside Sales role which allows me to be more deeply involved in the sales process. I remember a manager asking me if I was worried about this transition.

While I expect it to be challenging, I’m confident that I can do it - especially with the strong support of VMware’s Nascent ISR, ISE, BDR and NCG team. 😃

Happy 2019 to everyone, and thank you for such a wonderful year!
