char.gy secures additional £35m funding. Electric vehicle (EV) charging company char.gy has secured an increased investment commitment to £100 million to accelerate the rollout of its on-street charging infrastructure throughout the UK. The funding is part of the government’s £420 million Charging Infrastructure Investment Fund (CIIF), managed by infrastructure and private equity fund manager Zouk Capital LLP. Through CIIF char.gy secured an initial £6.4 million pounds in 2021, increasing to £65 million in 2022 and now totalling £100 million following the just announced third round. The investment supports equitable public access to charging infrastructure and will accelerate the rollout of char.gy’s public on-street network over the next five years, improving access to EV charging for the 40% of UK households without access to off-street parking. char.gy says the investment will allow it to expand its network from 3,000 charge points today to 100,000 by 2030. Public charging infrastructure: a reality check Alex Hinchcliffe, Interim Managing Director at Mer UK, discusses the current state of the public electric vehicle (EV) charging network. In the piece, Alex says: “As the EV industry evolves to target mass market buyers rather than the early adopters, we can expect growth to become less linear. Congrats to the Village of Skokie for completing a ComEd fleet electrification assessment and receiving a rebate to purchase six electric municipal fleet vehicles! Skokie was one of the first 12 municipalities to achieve our EV Readiness Program certification, which helps governments reduce barriers to EV ownership and infrastructure investment. City of Geneva Mayor Kevin Burns, Chairman of the Caucus Executive Board and the Environment and Energy Committee, spoke at a recent press conference that highlighted Skokie's accomplishments. "It’s important that local governments lead by example, and the EV Readiness Program encourages municipalities to transition their fleets to electric power," Burns said. "While Skokie is leading in transitioning to an electric transportation future, we are proud to support communities of all sizes and strengths in becoming EV Ready. More than half of our EV Ready Communities face environmental justice issues. Their work will equitably improve air quality and access to clean transportation for those most at risk." UK Power Networks (UKPN) has invested £4 million into London’s grid system in order to facilitate more electric buses on Transport for London network. Through UKPN’s Green Recovery Fund, the network operator has made the investment and installed a new 4.5MW power connection to support electric buses on several bus routes operating across London. The Green Recovery project seeks to speed up the decarbonisation of the UK’s transport networks by delivering faster electricity connections to projects seeking to install new green transport infrastructure, as well as supporting local authorities and communities to install air source heat pumps. #California 'ups the ante' adds $1.9B to further #ZEV #Infrastructure: The California Energy Commission (CEC) today approved its ZEV investment plan to accelerate progress on its EV charging & hydrogen infrastructure. The goal is to help deploy more infrastructure for light, medium,& heavy-duty zero-emission vehicles (ZEV) across California, creating the most extensive charging and hydrogen refueling network in the country. This is part of California's part of the $48B California Climate Commitment, including $10B for ZEVs and ZEV infrastructure. For #EVs, this year's plan to add 40,000 new #chargers, combined with previous investments, federal government, utilities, CA expects to reach 250,000 chargers in the next few years. Summary of CEC’s 4-year Clean Transportation Program: - $1.02B for HD ZEV Hydrogen & Electric Stations for Truck & Bus - $658M Light Duty DC FC Infrastructure - $130M for ZEV Port Infrastructure - $46M ZEV R&D - $5M Workforce Development.
