Have you heard about the booming industry of FemTech? It is amazing! I was reading recently about Ida Tin, co-founder of the Clue app, which tracks menstrual health. She has become a pioneer in this soon-to-be trillion-dollar industry. She is even credited with coining the term “FemTech” back in 2016. The innovative solutions in this budding industry are changing the landscape of women’s health. This is great news, as her success is drawing attention to using innovative technology to address health issues that affect women, such as menopause, cardiovascular, and mental health. More attention and funding for this industry are necessary, though. Ida Tin’s primary desire and push is to bring together FemTech companies so that together they can improve women’s health and resources. By working together, they can attract new investors. This is the drive because 80% of FemTech companies have female founders and women receive only about 2% of capital invested in startups. This FemTech industry is ripe for expansion with plenty of room for creative minds to make a substantial impact. It's an exciting time for technology and women's health, with the potential for groundbreaking advancements on the horizon.

Harsh Reality: Women of Color Still Face Alarming Maternal Mortality Rates Amidst seemingly boundless medical advancements, the grim truth remains: women of color continue to experience disproportionate maternal mortality rates. Shockingly, they are more likely to lose their life during labor and delivery than any other racial group—a haunting reminder of the systemic disparities that need to be urgently addressed. Today, I ask you to listen to a personal story Mohamed Kamara, founder & CEO of InovCares, who lost his sister and aunt to complications that were easily preventable if not for systemic failures. Mo’s story, and the countless others like his, should serve as a painful reminder that we must tear down the barriers that prevent access to quality healthcare being made available to all communities. It’s a reminder that we must work to build a world where all women—regardless of race or background—have their most vulnerable moments met with the care and attention they deserve. Let’s amplify these stories, acknowledge their injustices and tirelessly work towards a future where no woman has to face maternal mortality simply because of the color of her skin. #maternalhealth #HealthEquity #ListenToTheirStories
Grounded in a sobering reality: The US has the highest rates of maternal mortality in the industrialized world. In May 2017, having lost both his sister and aunt to preventable pregnancy-related causes, Mohamed Kamara found himself in a place with the motivation and determination to confront this maternal mortality crisis head-on and founded InovCares to this end — to address the diminished confidence in healthcare, misdiagnosis, improper treatment, and, ultimately, worse outcomes for women of color and their babies — amounting to over $32B in total maternal morbidity costs across US births. InovCares’ platform — which has already supported over 5,000 women of color with over 10,000 virtual consultations so far and is backed by organizations like Andreessen Horowitz TxO Fund, Ohio Impact Fund, and Jumpstart Foundry — is designed to minimize common barriers faced by pregnant and post-partum women by reducing costs, wait times and transportation needs, improving patient access to essential testing and prescriptions, providing a range of culturally competent specialists, and empowering and educating patients through easy access to online content. Mo’s story is incredibly inspiring and it was a real pleasure to learn more about his journey so far.
