As we celebrate Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day, I’m reminded of the incredible achievements and courageous contributions of women throughout history. From breaking glass ceilings to championing diversity and inclusion, women continue to shape the world in profound ways. Raising three young daughters, I am reminded regularly of how necessary it is that they learn about how far women have come (my first grader is in awe of Rosa Parks) and still understand how far we still need to go in order for equality to be present in many aspects of the workplace.
I often reflect on the quote cemented in the walls at my undergraduate business school, ‘To whom much is given, much is expected’ and I remain committed to fostering an inclusive workplace where all voices are heard and valued – where everyone can show up as their genuine selves. Because, if you can’t be ‘you’ how can you be expected to do your best work?
This week we explored the latest research from McKinsey’s Women in the Workplace report and transparently discussed the importance of allyship and the humbling reality of self-shielding from microaggressions. By understanding the challenges that exist we can continue to solve for them. I’ve been honored to partner with remarkable women at McKinsey leading this charge for the last three years in opening up their research into our workplaces, especially Alexis Krivkovich, Nicole Hardy Robinson, and Robin Lore, CFA. Thank you all so much for your partnership on this journey!
