Dynamic Nuclear Polarization (DNP) is cutting edge in hyperpolarization techniques. The technology transfers magnetization from abundant electrons spins to far less sensitive nuclei, potentially driving signal ehancement within several orders of magnitude. The electron polarization is generated by microwaves close to the electron para-magnetic resonance (EPR) and can transfer magnetization through 4 different mechanisms depending on the experiment; the Overhauser effect, the solid effect, thermal mixing or the cross effect. Currently, due to cost and overall accessibility, it is not a common form of NMR spectroscopy. I am excited to see all the new discoveries that will transpire, a result of more accessibility to these instruments! Every new installation is an exciting prospect!
Recently, #Bruker has successfully installed the first 600 MHz Dynamic Nuclear Polarization-Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (DNP-NMR) system in China at the Huairou Research Center of the Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Utilizing the principle of DNP, the new system has further improved the sensitivity of solid-state #NMR, which will help the institute conduct more in-depth explorations in the fields of chemistry and material science.
