🌍🚲 Exciting News from #VeloCity2024 in Ghent, Belgium! 🚲🌍 We are thrilled to share that Lucie Anderton CEnv, Head of Sustainability at UIC - International union of railways #UICrail, participated in the Velo-city conference held from June 18-21. Trains may not always take people door to door, but when paired with bicycles, they offer one of the most sustainable ways to travel. The #European project RAIL4CITIES, backed by Europe's Rail Joint Undertaking, has been conducting a series of Living Labs across Europe to explore how to create more seamless connections between trains and bikes, helping people enjoy more car-free days. If you could choose, would you prefer driving by car or alternative ways of transport? 🚗 Taking a walk and riding a bicycle regularly is beneficial for your health and also in reducing emissions and easing traffic in cities. 🚲 Therefore, our designs focus on energy efficiency and how our projects are connected with the surrounding city. We always build our projects within the city limits and do not encroach on undeveloped land and its vicinity. We chiefly concentrate on brownfields with a significant connection to public transport, where projects such as Blumental, Palma and Guthaus take place. 🚋 In the neighborhood of every project, cycling infrastructure is being developed and in our office projects such as Einpark, you will find changing rooms and showers for cyclists. Electric chargers for cars and public bike racks are naturally always included. European Mobility Week and World Car-free Day reminded us how important change of behavior within cities can be for sustainable mobility. 🚲Each one of us emits 2.8 KGs of CO2 daily just for our commute 😱 💡 But we can slash it by 67% simply by choosing a bicycle over a car, even once a day 🌱 💰 France took notice of this potential and made a bold move, investing $2.2 billion in cycling infrastructure. 🗼And Paris led the charge with its $290 million investment, proving that change is possible when we put our wheels in motion!💪🏻 Here's how transportation modes stack up in Paris now: 🚶♂️Walking: 53.5% 🚇Public Transport: 30% 🚲Cycling: 11.2% 🚗Cars: 4.3% 🛣️ To achieve this transformation, they built 180 km of new bike lanes, added130,000 bicycle parking spots and removed 70% of existing on-street parking spots for motorcars 🚲 🌟 I firmly believe in the saying: "A developed country is not where the poor have cars. It's where the rich use public transportation." 🏙️ I'm hopeful that more cities and countries will follow France and Paris to create a more sustainable world.
