Zag compiles the transport pledges set out in the UK’s top five party manifestos as millions head to polling stations today to vote in the next government. "The next government will inherit a hot mess in our transport system,” Greenpeace UK Policy Director Dr Doug Parr told Zag Daily. “From crumbling railway services - particularly in the north of England - to vanishing bus routes and flip-flopping on electric vehicle incentives. "Most of the parties, including Labour, intend to bring back the 2030 phase out date for new petrol and diesel cars and vans, after the Conservatives rolled back this target. But there was a mixed bag on public transport with only the Green Party pledging the level of financial support needed to boost bus, rail and cycling infrastructure expansion and electrification.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/enRhzUj2

Announced today ahead of the budget the Australian Government commits $100 million to a new national Active Transport Fund for new and upgraded bicycle and walking paths. An important contribution to reduction transport emission through encouraging a shift to the lowest emission forms of transport. Climateworks’ forthcoming report on our transport decarbonisation modelling shows just how import mode shift can be to hitting our emissions reduction goals (watch this space), so this announcement is heartening to see. #transportdecarbonisation #netzeocities

The new Toonie made to look loony, because it is loony that our railway is not funded and being restored today. Everything adds up, the potential revenue from Freight confirmed by the B.C. Government, having 80% of over 900,000 people living within it's catchment, having an operator, a plan, and everything set and ready to go except the absentee Federal Government to reconcile certain sections of the corridor. Our loony toons Federal Government needs to get to the table and figure this out, it's an existing alternate route that can move people and freight while the loonies in our pockets lose their value every day. How many Toonie's do we pay in Canadian taxes? How many Loonie's are building highway infrastructure? It's loony how little we have ever received in return for our generosity. It's nothing in comparison to anywhere east. Sign the petition https://lnkd.in/gjs72CWK and sign on for Change https://chng.it/HTPJ25CqPr to hear news and participate in the next steps. This is what a wasteful subsidy looks like. $162 million of your tax dollars are slated to "improve" only 2.6km of highway 1 through Goldstream Provincial Park. They are not really improvements at all either, 95% of the actual safety improvement this represents could be done with paint and a street light. At the end, it's still just one lane in either direction. This particular stretch of highway barely ever has collisions too, those occur much more frequently in the Northern double lane sections like the South Shawnigan turnoff up North, and Mill Bay around Bamberton. $162 million is 38% of the cost to restore 289km of rail service on Vancouver Island, something that would be a great investment for the island. Of note in the article "From the article Olsen [The Tsartlip First Nation elder] said he is surprised there isn’t a “Plan B” on improving the stretch of road, including lowering speed limits and more enforcement, and other options to move people, such as increasing transit and bringing back rail travel." https://lnkd.in/gkRyYWkt We're less than 100 away from having 12,000 signatures in the petition to restore it https://chng.it/HTPJ25CqPr All Aboard! A few years ago, I worked on developing the business case and economic model for the Clyde Waterfront and Renfrew Riverside project - the first opening road bridge across the River Clyde. Securing the Glasgow City Region Deal funding via the business case was a major milestone, and it’s incredibly rewarding to see the project now taking shape! Congratulations to Norman Yardley and the team at Renfrewshire Council on taking it from concept to delivery, a great achievement. To me, its worth highlighting why this is story worth celebrating: The new bridge isn’t just about reducing travel time; it’s about bringing people together. It will better connect communities across the River Clyde, enhance access to jobs, education, and leisure, making daily life a little easier for everyone. It’s also exciting to see economic theory put into practice, something that many Economist's don't always get to do. Over 700 construction jobs are already supporting families through this project, with more permanent roles expected to follow though the apprenticeships, work experience placements, school and college visits that have been included in the construction contract. The impact on local economies - on both sides of the river - can’t be overstated. The bridge will also deliver much needed sustainable growth through integrated active travel, connecting to Yoker train station and the national cycling network. While this isn't something we quantified, just only 6 years ago, offering safer, greener travel options will create health and wellbeing benefits well into the future. Finally, who doesn't love an awesome bridge?! (Peter Boesch) #developmenteconomics #bridges #scotland #businesscases
Work is continuing on the Renfrew to Yoker bridge! 🌉 Once completed, the 2-lane bridge will open to allow ships to pass through and accommodate: 🚗 vehicles 🚲 cyclists & 🚶♀️ pedestrians The UK Government is supporting the infrastructure project as part of the £523m Glasgow City Region deal.

Not every Minister can answer every call on a House of Commons Petition. I have to applaud the Honourable Minister of Transportation, Pablo Rodriguez, for responding within the legal framework of 45 days today. But is the so called “Honourable” Minister of Crown-Indigenous relations, Gary Anandasangaree, negligent in failing to respond to the first point of the petition on the last day today? "1. Work with dedicated resources and with a nation-to-nation approach to reconcile and resolve long-standing First Nations’ concerns with certain sections of the Island Corridor." The Minister of Transportation cannot answer that question, the question is where is Gary on resolving the issues standing in the way of our future on Vancouver Island? New electric buses will be on North Somerset roads from early next year, after our successful bid for £15 million of new funding for greener buses across the area ⚡🚌🙌 We're receiving £12.8 million from First West of England to be invested into the Weston-super-Mare First Bus depot and services. In addition, we're also getting £2.1 million in capital funding from the Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom. The Zero Emission Bus Regional Areas (ZEBRA) funding will deliver 24 brand new electric buses for the X1 and X4 bus services, as well as electric vehicle charging points at the Weston bus depot 🦓🔌🚌 The photo shows (left to right): Carl Nicholson our Head of Passenger Transport, Rob Pymm - First Wales and West’s Commercial Director, and Cllr Annemieke Waite our Executive Member with responsibility for climate change 🌍 #OpenFairGreen #NorthSomerset #ClimateEmergency #ZeroEmissions #ZeroEmissionsBusRegionalAreas #ZEBRA #Funding #ElectricBuses

The conversation about land power is a diversion from the need to see cruise ships in a larger perspective. Cruise ships as a form of tourism/travel are associated with an extremely large consumption of resources and thus very stressful for the ecosystems. Now that we have crossed six out of nine planetary boundaries and are facing a collapse of our ecosystems, there is no room for cruise ships at all. There is no room for maneuver left, and therefore it makes no sense with activities (and even less when it is in the luxury category, accessible only to a small part of the world's population) that do further damage to our shared ecosystems. We are about to destroy the very basis of existence for life, and the conversation must therefore be about how we can stop the cruise ship activities very quickly. #dkpol #dkgreen #krydstogtskibe #klima #biodiversitet #planetæregrænser #cruise
Finally land power for cruise ships in Copenhagen 🌱 A new onshore power system should be operational by 2025, meaning cruise ships can plug in at port instead of running on diesel. Cleaner air is on the horizon for the city and it’s a huge step forward in our global push toward greener ports and seas! 🚢⚡️ This should be the global standard! 🌍 #GreenPorts #Copenhagen #CleanSeas #EcoFriendlyTravel
