Here are a few highlights of what we were up to last year. Do receive our offering. #ImagineCreateTeach
In 2023, we focused on expanding both our internal and external capacities through building partnerships and reaching new networks, expanding our Transformational Feminist leadership work, and contributing to the realization of bodily autonomy and integrity for young women and girls. The achievements that are highlighted in these areas are a testament to the dedication of our team, the generosity of our partners and the undying commitment of our volunteers and community champions. As we celebrate March as Women’s History Month, and we remind ourselves of all the women who have made strides in the movement for equity and equality on the national stage, it’s equally important to celebrate our own achievements on the smaller stage of our personal and professional lives. It’s part of the path we all take on the leadership journey. Black women have been at the forefront of change, breaking barriers and reshaping industries. They are the architects of change, the voices of reason, and the catalysts for progress. They are leaders, innovators, and visionaries who defy expectations and redefine success on their own terms. From civil rights pioneers like Rosa Parks and Fannie Lou Hamer to trailblazers in STEM like Katherine Johnson and Mae Jemison, Black women have left an indelible mark on history, inspiring us all to dream bigger and reach higher. Toni Townes-Whitley's recent remarks remind us of the ongoing journey toward equality and representation in leadership roles. Her words challenge us to move beyond tokenism and advocate for systemic change that uplifts all women, regardless of race or background. As Vice President Kamala Harris famously said, "I may be the first, but I won't be the last." This sentiment resonates deeply during Women's History Month as we celebrate the resilience, brilliance, and unwavering spirit of Black women who continue to shape history and inspire us all. TEDx Speaker | I help organisations create mentally healthy, happy workforces for racialised employees | CEO at Frontline Therapist | Trustee and NED
From Overlooked to Empowered: The Journey of Black Women in Leadership As a doctoral candidate, I'm on a mission to illuminate the path to senior executive positions for black women. With my social worker and psychotherapist background, my research delves into the organisational dynamics that hinder and support black women's ascent to leadership roles. In a world where black women remain underrepresented in top leadership positions across industries, my work aims to bring their stories and strategies to the forefront. The nuances of race and ethnicity in workplace experiences often go unnoticed, causing the narratives of black women to be sidelined. I'm here to change that. Through my research, I'm amplifying black women's voices and experiences, aiming to unveil effective strategies that shatter the glass ceiling. I'm committed to fostering tangible change in leadership demographics by generating insights that dismantle barriers. If you're a black woman in a senior leadership role and want to contribute, please reach out! I'm also keen to connect with people managers. Together, we can work towards protecting diversity in the workplace. I share more about the reality facing black women leaders in my recent TEDx talk, " The Shocking Reality of Black Women in Leadership." It's a hard-hitting truth we can no longer ignore: NO black female CEOs are at the helm of British business. As a black female CEO and psychotherapist, I've navigated the challenges black women confront in the workplace. While personal growth and stepping out of our comfort zones are pivotal to career longevity, it's time for employers to step up. Hollow rhetoric no longer suffices. Action is the demand of the hour. Happiworkers , we are determined to provide mental health and career growth support to all employees, irrespective of race and gender. Let's unite to rewrite the narrative of black women in leadership. Feel free to reach out – I'm excited to connect and collaborate!
