Netflix had their second Upfront presentation this week, and it gave us some interesting insight into the continued growth and momentum of the streaming service's ad-supported plan. During the summit, Amy Reinhard, Netflix's President of Advertising, confirmed that over 40% of new Netflix subscribers, within the countries where the company adopts their advertising plan, are now from consumers opting to watch their content with ads. The company has now reached 40 million global monthly active users, up from 5 million a year ago. I'm not sure if this is more or less than I expected - maybe about right. In any case, it conveys strong appeal and growing popularity for ad-supported plans amongst consumers. #streamingwars #adtech #OTT

Netflix subscribers in the United States and the United Kingdom woke up to a major update on the streaming site's Plans and Pricing page. Roid Authority reports that the #company has officially removed the $10 Basic tier, leaving #only three tiers available: Standard with Ads, Standard, and Premium. Existing subscribers on the Basic plan can breathe a sigh of relief as they are exempted from these changes and can continue to enjoy ad-#free #content at the same rate. If they make any alterations to their subscription, they will no longer have access to this tier. Industry experts note that this shift in pricing options suggests a deliberate effort on Netflix's part to steer its users towards the Standard with Ads plan

👀 Has anyone noticed how Netflix is slowly turning into cable TV recently? It all started with a price hike, followed by measures to curb password sharing, and ultimately, the elimination of the basic plan, which previously allowed users to enjoy ad-free content. Netflix's president of advertising Amy Reinhard said last week at CES that “scaling our business is absolutely our biggest priority right now, but we want to make sure we’re doing that in a meaningful way for the members.” 🤔 How much does a company need to scale? Are they really putting customers first? I get that we live in a capitalist world but this feels beyond greedy. 🤑 We’re getting a worse deal than we did with the cable TV a decade ago. We’re essentially paying to watch premium content with ads. 🤢 I anticipate that in the near future, we may find ourselves subscribing to a service that encompasses all these streaming platforms, effectively returning to the days reminiscent of traditional cable TV. What do you think? Are you considering cancelling your Netflix subscription? 📺 Having a bit of a Monday rant here, but I just couldn’t ignore this and I know I have quite a few people working in advertising and film, so it would be interesting to hear your opinion. #Netflixchanges #consumerconcerns #Mondayrant #streaming #streamingindustry #netflix #streaming

Now, most streaming platforms are planning to incorporate advertisements into their plans, including #Netflix, #PrimeVideo, and #Hotstar. Though in the very beginning, OTT seemed like an option for people who wanted to watch ad-free content, now, all the cheaper plans are occupied by such ads. But, this is not stopping the platforms from gaining popularity, as Netflix is showing some impressive results. https://lnkd.in/dRQNnA8e

Does cracking down on password-sharing work for streamers? 🔑 A hot topic in the streaming world. With huge competition to get new subscribers, Netflix announced two months back that password sharers were no longer going to get a free pass. The results? In their last quarter, Netflix added a stack of new subscribers beating their expectations significantly. Now, research firm Antenna reveals data that shows that Netflix growth is still holding post-PW crackdown: 💥Netflix saw 2.6M gross adds to July 2023 sub numbers (US) 💥Netflix led the category with nearly 1 in 5 Premium SVOD Gross Adds 💥23% of Netflix sign-ups went to its ad-supported plan In short, consumers that have been enjoying Netflix for free over the past years see enough value in the service to want to pay monthly. Would that be true for other services? It’s a big question. And I’m not so sure - but we’re about to find out as Disney is the next company that is making noise about PW crackdowns. Do you use someone else’s streaming service? And if so, would you pay if your access stopped❓ 🚀 🚀🚀 #streaming #media #netflix #svod
