IT'S ALL LIVE! Each month VideoAmp gives me access to their linear TV viewing (based NOT on janky panels, but on cross-platform TV usage in 39 million homes and 63 million devices), and I analyze the numbers, focusing on the on the 100 most watched programs, to spot trends. For the January TV 100, here are my big takeaways: - In January, the NFL Playoffs amassed 344 million total viewers. - The games and audiences were massive in January, but with less football on TV, Sports took up fewer spots in the top 100 in than in 4Q, with more than one third of the TV 100 versus more than half all fall. - However, in the month, News surpassed the NFL with 39 of the top 100 spots to the NFL’s 36. David Muir and Lester Holt are the biggest stars on TV. And they do it five times a week! - Scripted programming made its first post-strike appearance in the top 100 most watched programs. TV GOAT Dick Wolf dominated the category, with 7 of the Scripted total of 8 entrees. - Between ABC and ESPN, The Walt Disney Company crushed all comers, with 44 of the top TV 100. In second place, NBCUniversal tripled the followers CBS and Fox Corporation. - Between Sports, News, and Awards, live TV programming made up 88 of the top 100 programs. Traditional is now simply momentary breaks between live events. Introvert Guide : Modes of Viewers’ Migration.  The relationship between Afternoon programming and Primetime programming may exhibit an inverse relationship, a parallel relationship or a contradictory relationship. Identifying the mode of the relationship has its distinct advantage on how viewers migrate from one slot to the next or perhaps how viewers determine ratings in terms of the two varying corridors.  An inverse relationship may create a condition where gender, age and social class as factors inversely dictate the migration of viewers within succeeding corridors. Perhaps, determining the initial stratified  ratings grids and its average ratings will mirror how inverse the relationship between afternoon and primetime programs. More or less, correct reading may translate to managing viewers’ expectations and engagement as well. Philippine Television Programming used to have contradictory tone in terms of daytime and nighttime programming. Eventually, upon the advent of Latin Teleseryes, programming moved to an inverse relationship. At the moment,  what we have is a parallel relationship. Where migration is primarily dictated by age ... secondary by  gender  and lastly by social class. Caught the latest Power Half-Hour Season 3 episode on 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐃𝐞𝐟𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬. 2 things I took away: 1. Rick Harris stated that he always believed that if you worked hard, everyone would notice and pull you up with them which is not the case. But you actually have to make people aware that you are ready to go to the next level. #selfpromote #personalbranding 2. Vicky Hampson echoed the sentiments in which I believe in as well which is awareness trumps everything. Take that and use it along your journey to climb up the career ladder. what is CTV? Over the last few years, TV vision has tracked the increasing amount of time Americans spend on Ad-Supported Apps such as YouTube and Hulu. In the second half of 2022, 48% of Time Spent Viewing CTV went to Ad-Supported Apps (up 55% from the end of 2020) and just 26% to SVOD Though 2022 was a big year for CTV, the sharp upticks in app adoption seen just a year or two ago have finally settled. The number of CTV enabled households has remained steady at 83%. Similarly, the number of apps viewers actually watch has also remained consistent and notably lower than during the peak pandemic highs. Households have gone from watching an average of 7.7 apps in Q4 2020 to 7.3 in 2022, while the number with 10 or more apps hovers at 29%. The daily viewing experience of CTV audiences tracks closely to that of a linear TV viewing experience. During morning hours, we see a spike in time spent with children’s programming. As primetime approaches viewers increase their share of time spent, though interestingly, attention to ads holds fairly steady regardless of the daypart. Later in the evening, binging increases, while time spent and ad attention drop sharply overnight as audiences fall asleep in front
