I love October, I always have - it's the month I was born and it's the perfect bridge between still warm September and much harsher November. But since I started working in the amazing world on business messaging, October now signifies the start of the busy season - Black Friday is creeping closer and closer and people are starting to think about their campaigns. Three important questions I would ask myself if I'd be planning an SMS campaing are: 1) Where am I sending? 2) What sender name do I want to use? 3) What content will I send? Would it include links? Once this is all clear, go over all the above with your account manager, sales, success or support! 💌

This is the series of email designs I made for one of my clients during the big Black Friday sale. The results were insane compared to what they had last year. For any sales period or special product release, here are a few things I'll advise anyone to do: 1. Make plans and strategize ahead of time. 2. Hype the sale before the D day and give them little information about what the sale will look like (a clue about the discount, how long the sale will last). 3. Tell them to subscribe to an early bird list and make sure to keep them updated with good information about the sale. 4. Send out 1 to 2 emails during the launch day and add SMS if you have an SMS list. 5. Make subsequent emails that create urgency. Got any questions? Feel free to ask. Many of the small business owners I know aren't 'doing' Black Friday, and maybe you aren't either. But here's an idea for getting some benefit from the idea of BF even if you don't have the time or inclination to do a full-on campaign. Try using it as a prompt to stretch your sales muscles. Send out an offer that you wouldn't normally send. It doesn't have to be a discount, you could add value rather than cutting the price. Put together a really tempting package of some kind and offer it for a limited time. You don't have to call it a Black Friday offer and you don't have to do it on the Friday either. The goal is just to try something different and see what happens. And if now isn't the right time for you, just park this idea and do it in December or January instead.

Another Tuesday Top Tip for you, with the dreaded Black Friday 😱 in mind! We all need to save money wherever possible, especially after the cost of living crisis that's hit us this year. Which is why I'm not asking you to avoid Black Friday completely. This weeks top tip is instead asking you to support small businesses. You'll find a much better level of customer service, a real feelgood factor for making a bigger difference to someone's income AND, as a general rule of thumb, smaller businesses will have a smaller carbon footprint. 👣👣 #supportsmallbusiness #smallbusiness #buybetter #makeadifference #independentbusiness

BLACK FRIDAY  Deals? Emails? Have you shopped? Have you bought goods? Services? Small Businesses can find days like these tough to compete. But your difference is you , your USP- you! Be sure to tell people your story, who they are buying from, why you are the person they should spend their money with. This should be part of your social strategy all year round. And big deals don't always have to mean discounts- add on to your services, or offer a freebie, an extra thing in January when everyhtng is a littel bit flatter.
