The Kenora District Services Board’s 10 Year Housing and Homelessness Plan ‘A Place for Everyone’ is presented as a list of nine Priorities identified by the KDSB. Under each Priority are associated Goals that focus on specific needs and associated actions. Collectively, the Priorities provide a comprehensive approach to addressing current gaps in housing security in the Kenora District and inform a dynamic response to address the needs of our community members. 1. Understand demographic changes and trends 2. Maintain strategies for homelessness prevention 3. Develop transitional housing solutions 4. Address the needs of key priority groups 5. Increase housing supply 6. Address issues and limitations of existing housing stock 7. Improve information sharing and integrate service delivery 8. Earlier this week, we headed to Lambeth Town Hall with other homelessness organisations and local authority representatives to share our solutions to the housing crisis that’s leaving young people unable to escape homelessness. The current housing system is broken, and our new research sheds a light on how government support simply doesn’t reflect the realities of finding a home if you’re a young person who has experienced homelessness. It’s time to act. Young people need housing security – and they need it now. That means more affordable homes, Local Housing Allowance that actually matches rising rents, and laws that protect vulnerable young people from discrimination by landlords and deal with the scourge of unsafe and unliveable homes. Today, December 7, 2023, Mecklenburg County Community Support Services  released the 2023 State of Housing Instability & Homelessness (SoHIH) Report. The annual SoHIH report synthesizes local, regional, and national data on the full housing continuum. It provides a knowledge base that Charlotte-Mecklenburg uses to make informed policy, practice, and funding decisions to facilitate optimized resource allocation and systems of care. The 2023 SoHIH report updates standard community metrics related to housing and homelessness, covering aspects such as cost-burden, evictions, Point-in-Time Count, housing inventory, rental gaps, Housing Trust Fund, and system performance metrics. This year’s report also includes data from the Unsheltered Point-in-Time Count Survey, Mecklenburg County Detention Center data, and enhanced information about local housing vouchers. https://lnkd.in/g6tFgHhN
