The Louisiana Stop Solitary Coalition (LSSC), launched in 2019 and led by the Justice and Accountability Center of Louisiana, is a robust initiative with a distinct mission: to raise community awareness about the devastating and long-lasting effects of solitary confinement and end this inhumane practice.
Solitary confinement, a controversial practice within the criminal justice system, causes immense suffering and trauma for incarcerated people and their families. We have heard countless stories of daily depression and psychological torture endured by those subjected to solitary confinement. This practice violates human dignity, denies the fundamental need for social interaction, and contradicts rehabilitative efforts.
Comprised of survivors, stakeholders, and various community and faith-based organizations, LSSC is a powerful statewide coalition committed to eliminating solitary confinement from Louisiana's jails and prisons by 2028.
We invite you to join us in our pursuit of justice and freedom. Together, we can make a significant positive change.
