Vet to Basic 2023 and that's a wrap! . With the support of the Indonesia Ministry of Forestry and Environment, The Indonesian wildlife veterinarian association a.k.a asliqewan finally held the first on-site workshop and training for junior Indonesian wildlife vets at Sir Michael Uren Learning Center under the host of Yayasan IAR Indonesia . 20 participants across Sumatra, Java, and Kalimantan, involved with over 15 rescue centers, and most of them are fresh graduates. Workshop topics are simply basic, covering basic conservation legislation, animal welfare in the rescue center, basic wildlife anaesthesia, wildlife and human emergency kit, basic sampling for disease diagnosis in wildlife, basic wildlife pathology and necropsy photography, wildlife biosafety-biosecurity, basic fluid therapy, basic wound healing in wildlife, and even to mental health for wildlife vets. . Obviously, not just the wildlife that is critically endangered, but also the wildlife vets. This event was made as a concern of the high turnover numbers in wildlife vets. Most of them are young and fresh graduates with limited guidance or mentorship or even limited access to capacity-building events. Therefore, this event covers those gaps and becomes a networking hub. So hopefully, these young wildlife vets can be more confident because now (at least) they realize that they're not alone anymore. .
