The Story of the Birth of the Kuroneko Mark..
The birth of the Kuroneko Oyako (parent and child) mark, which has become a familiar symbol of Yamato, originated with Allied Van Lines, an American company with which Yamato formed a business alliance in 1957.
Mr. Yasuomi Ogura, who sympathized with the meaning of "careful handling" in the company's parent-and-child cat mark, obtained permission from James Cummins of the company to use the mark.
The mark was designed by Takeshi Shimizu, who was in charge of public relations at Yamato Unyu (now Yamato Transport).
His daughter's crayon drawing of a parent and child cat on construction paper provided the inspiration for the mark, which was completed in June of the same year.
The official company emblem is a "Y" on a cherry blossom, but the cat mark became an associate emblem in 1985.
