And with the added challenges of climate change, security issues and the newly revised Drinking Water Directive and the Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive, then more or less every country has a costly journey ahead of them to make water access a reality for all. Have you heard about the Climate Pollution Reduction Grant (CPRG)? It's a program funded by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The Central Pines Regional Council (CPRC) has received funding to develop plans for our region by 2026. We've already made progress, including submitting our Priority Climate Action Plan and partnering on a state implementation grant. But we're not stopping there! We want your input to help shape our Comprehensive Climate Action Plan (CCAP), which is due in 2025. There may even be more CPRG funding available in the future. Nobody was expecting anything positive for the environment from the Govt's budget announcement today, but they have outdone themselves by raiding the conservation budget to pay for their war on nature. At the same time as funding for conservation, climate change, and environmental protections is being slashed, $92 million will be spent to override environmental protections with the Fast-track Approvals Bill and to further weaken environmental protections by rewriting the RMA. Large cuts to climate change, environmental and conservation programmes in this year’s Budget will make the country much less resilient to the impacts of climate change, leaving more New Zealanders at risk from flooding, and will do nothing to protect the more than 4000 native species that are in real trouble.
