Fossil Free Research is becoming Campus Climate Network!
Since Fossil Free Research was founded over a year ago, our movement has grown substantially. New campaigns have been launched, historic policies have been passed, and fossil funded climate research is under more scrutiny than ever before.
However, as one of the only climate justice groups in North America with an explicit focus on campus-based campaigns, our coalition has organically become a home for campus campaigns focused on systemic issues related to climate and environmental justice beyond fossil free research (divestment, industry career recruitment, campus Green New Deals, etc.). The common thread between all these campaigns is the belief that our universities can only become true climate leaders by cutting all ties to the fossil fuel industry and its enablers.
We are becoming the Campus Climate Network in order to cultivate this important progression in campus climate organizing and to develop as many new climate leaders as possible. When we build power among students, faculty, and communities on campuses around the world, we maximize our ability to wield the university as a lever of power and compel broader social action toward achieving the just energy transition we deserve.
⚡️Our Mission:
The Campus Climate Network is revitalizing the student climate movement. We are building an international coalition of student-led climate justice groups fighting to cut ties with the fossil fuel industry and its enablers. We provide students with the training, resources, and connections they need to run winning campaigns on campus and become the next generation of climate justice leaders.
🔎What does this mean for the Fossil Free Research movement?
Although we are broadening our scope, Fossil Free Research will remain the flagship campaign for our coalition. We will continue to recruit organizers and groups to start FFR campaigns and will remain a leading voice on exposing Big Oil’s toxic influence on climate-related research.
