A completely new - or extremely old - way to grow strong and durable turfgrass efficiently? 🤔 The Capillary Hydroponics system is a new way to replicate the way grass is genetically programmed to grow: by subsurface irrigation. It is inspired from the tidal changes seen on British links, where a never-ending changing water table moistens the growing medium from below. Delve into the mechanics of this system that optimizes water usage, maintenance and encourages strong grass growth. 🌱 #EfficientTurfgrassManagement

Just how accurate is OpenET? The online mapping tool, based on Landsat and other satellite data, helps track and manage water use such as irrigation in the western United States. Below OpenET map shows the cumulative evapotranspiration using an ensemble of six models for the Bakersfield, California, area, with the highest amounts in dark blue. Dragonfly Aerospace imagers onboard #EOSSAT_1 captured 🇨🇦 #Canada’s circular fields that look out of this world, revealing the beauty at its finest! And although some might compare them to the infamous “crop circles”, we are quite certain this time these are real fields in Alberta captured by our satellite. 💧 The thought-provoking field geometry owes its perfect circular shape to center-pivot irrigation – a method that’s especially in demand in arid regions where it helps maximize crop yields while preserving limited water resources. #Sustainability in action! 🚰 The #CenterPivotIrrigation system consists of a long water-pumping tube with sprinklers and wheeled towers that pivot around the water source in the field’s center and spray water on crops as they go. That explains the concentric circles that can be seen on zooming in: those are wheel tracks. It’s delightful to see how #sustainability shapes a better, more beautiful world through advanced farming technology – and even more delightful to see it from space. Stay tuned for more enigmatic #Earth images from #EOSSAT-1 with its powerful DragonEye imagers: https://bit.ly/4964wnU

Aquaponics can be practiced with any of the six main hydroponic growing methods (besides the NFT method) by taking away standard reservoirs and adding appropriate fish tanks. The other hydroponic methods that can be used in aquaponics include, but are not limited to: ✅ Deep water culture Plant roots are semi-submerged in water that is fed oxygen and nutrients in DWC systems. ✅ Wicking Water and nutrients are fed directly to the plant's roots via a wicking system. ✅ Drip A constant supply of water and nutrients is slowly dripped over the roots of plants in this type of system. ✅ Ebb and flow Timers and water pumps systematically flood and drain the roots of plants in what is known as the ebb and flow hydroponic method. ✅ Aeroponics This popular hydroponic technique involves growing towers where plants' roots are suspended in the air and misted or sprayed with water and nutrients. #hydroponicmethods #aquaponic #urbanfarming #aquaponics #aquaculture #sustainablefood #aeroponics

🔍 Data Discovery | Actual Evapotranspiration for Australia using CMRSET algorithm TERN Australia’s AET dataset was produced in collaboration with world-leading researchers and software engineers at CSIRO Land and Water. It provides Australia-wide coverage at a 30m resolution every month using the CMRSET algorithm. These world-leading satellite-derived data promote accurate water balance modelling for any catchment or groundwater system in Australia. The dynamics of water use from all vegetation communities, including ‘biodiversity hotspots’ such as groundwater dependent ecosystems, can be monitored through droughts and floods. They are essential information for environmental policy-makers and managers, the Australian irrigation industry, and will help promote enhanced water resource management and ensure the nation’s food security. You can access this dataset on the TERN Data Discovery Portal (TDDP) ⤵ 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gamJ3UmR Find out more: https://lnkd.in/g_f4rf-9 #NCRISimpact #datadiscovery #scienceweek #researchinnovation
