Last week was an extraordinary experience filled with invaluable moments and networking opportunities at the prestigious Seaside Startup Summit. As a follow-up, I share four personal observations: 1️⃣ #Sustainability-focus 🌱: Sustainability-purposed startups are gaining momentum as #ESG factors play an increasingly important role and public awareness increases about #climate change. Startups leverage technology to aim for sustainable business models (e.g. #circular economy, economy of #functionality), for their client's benefits (e.g. #compostable packaging and #biosourced plastic material #manufacturing), or exhibit their ESG commitment to attract clients and #investments (e.g. CO2 #neutrality claims, #ecodesign). Successful startups will be those that demonstrate a genuine and sustainable positive impact globally, throughout the entire lifecycle. 2️⃣ #AI is replacing #Data 🤖: A vibrant new generation of AI-powered startups is exploring novel business models enabled by the ability to process vast quantities of unstructured data and generate #insights at #scale. AI continues to infuse the fields of customer #interactions, enhancing customer #experience, making mass #recommendations, boosting #productivity applications, #recruitment and #talent management. A few years ago, Data was the sovereign keyword. Today, AI sits on the throne of many startups value proposals. Winning teams will be those able to transform AI promises into tangible added value in the long term. 3️⃣ #Crowdfunding for #lending and #equity 💶: As #funding and #financing become more challenging to secure, startup founders resort to diversified instruments. Next to the traditional #reward-based #crowdfunding, the #debt-based and #equity-based variants are on the rise. This trend is made possible by a dynamic ecosystem of new #fintech startups developing easy-to-use platforms. Reducing entry barriers (e.g. addressing #legal, #compliance, #administrative and #technical aspects) enables aspiring individual investors to bring financial resources to small private companies. 4️⃣ #Male-dominated ecosystem 👔: #Diversity remains a significant challenge in the (mostly) tech-driven startup ecosystem, with men still outnumbering the industry despite efforts to increase #gender and #racial #diversity. #Women and minorities often face barriers to entry, such as limited access to funding, #mentorship, and #networking opportunities. Addressing these challenges, increasing the visibility of inspiring #rolemodels, #WomenInTech, and ensuring everyone has equal #opportunities to #succeed in the startup world are crucial to building a more vibrant, innovative, and inclusive ecosystem. Let's see what I will think about this post one year from now! 😉
