Should FMTC continue to use the term Network (most common, readily understood, but often a misnomer and somewhat constraining) or switch to Tracking Platform (better umbrella term but a little awkward) or something else?

🌐 Understanding STP Port Status 🌐 In networking, Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) ensures loop-free topologies by assigning specific port roles and states: 🔹 Port Roles: Root Port: Best path to the root bridge. Designated Port: Forwards traffic on a segment. Blocked Port: Prevents loops by staying inactive. 🔹 Port States: Listening: Monitors for BPDUs. Learning: Prepares to forward by learning MAC addresses. Forwarding: Actively sends/receives traffic. Blocking: Only listens to BPDUs, no traffic. Mastering these roles and states is key to building efficient, resilient networks. 💡#Networking #STP #TechTips #NetworkEngineering💡

What a start to the new year🎉 I"m excited to announce the acceptance of my paper, "Leveraging Intent-Based Networking and SRv6 for Dynamic End-to-End Traffic Steering," to the 38th IEEE/IFIP Network Operations and Management Symposium (NOMS 2025). 🌐 This work explores how IBN and SRv6 can be combined to enable more agile and efficient network operations. More information, including code and related materials, can be found on GitHub https://github.com/hawkv6. 💻 Questions are welcome! #NOMS2025 #IBN #SRv6 #Networking #Research

The 6th ETSI NG112 Plugtests in cooperation with EENA 112 have officially started, an important step towards ensuring interoperability in emergency communications. Among the key focuses this year is the testing of real-time text (RTT) as defined in RFC 4103 and ETSI TS 103 479, emphasizing the importance of true equivalent access for everyone. Many solutions claim to implement RTT, but often are proprietary, require a data plan and lack priorization on the network. Prioritizing native RTT instead of relying on proprietary over-the-top solutions makes emergency services more accessible, inclusive and efficient. NG112 Plugtests are a major step in testing and validating systems to ensure standard conformity and interoperability. Looking forward to a productive week of testing, where key innovations will help shape the future of emergency communications! #ETSI #EENA #NG112 #Interoperability

Asynchronous transmission can significantly improve an SMS application"s utilization of the SMPP session bandwidth. The following diagram helps explain the reasoning behind using the protocol asynchronously. The submit window size defines the maximum number of unacknowledged SMPP submit_sm operations (i.e. the application is waiting on a submit_sm_resp with a message ID). When the submit window size in an application is set to 1, the application will wait for the response from the SMSC/SMS gateway before sending the next message. This synchronous submission of messages will severely limit the maximum throughput, especially for high-latency connections where the SMSC takes a long time to process each submit_sm and return a submit_sm_resp or where there is high internet latency.
