Very proud to have been apart of this initiative during my time with Komatsu Australia 💙 Domestic violence is a national crisis in Australia. Did you know on average a woman is killed in Australia every 5 days due to domestic violence? But this past week alone 6 woman have been killed. It’s horrific and confronting. 16 days of WA starts tomorrow Saturday, 25 November 2023 which is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and finishes on 10 December (Human Rights Day). During this time, the community is invited to take part in encouraging change to stop violence against women. So, how can you participate? 💭 1. Direct support for a colleague, family member, friend or loved one who is experiencing domestic violence - can you be a safe space for someone? Can you provide access to helplines, safe communication methods or accomodation to allow them to leave a domestic violence environment? 2. Volunteer - seek out your local community organisations, services and groups that are supporting people impacted by family and domestic violence. 3. Talk to your children - teach them about what respectful relationships and consent looks like. 4. Model respectful behaviour everyday - with your family, while you’re at work or with friends. Speak up if something doesn’t sit right - the behaviour we walk past, or sit with and listen to, is the behaviour we accept. 5. Inform yourself - if you’re not sure about what domestic violence can look like (remember it’s not always physical violence) engage with some of the many resources in this area. Tarang Chawla has a podcast titled “There’s No Place Like Home”and Kic recently did a podcast with the parents of Hannah Clarke which explored coercive control. Highly recommend both of these resources. 6. Donate (if you have the means) - a $200 contribution can help provide a woman a one week stay in a refuge with food, bed, toiletries, clothes, transport and legal support at Zonta House Refuge Association

A Crimestoppers Trust campaign in #London is urging friends and neighbours of potential domestic abuse victims to not stay silent. It appeals to victims of abuse to reach out for help from the many support services that are available in the capital. The campaign is also reaching out to 'bystanders' – such as neighbours, colleagues, friends and family – who may have suspicions, but feel helpless about what to do when they think someone may be experiencing domestic abuse. It's ALWAYS time to fight human trafficking. One of our non-profit partners does this year-round. SAFE (Strategic Alliance Fighting Exploitation) is ALLIANCE of businesses, philanthropists, law enforcement, the justice system, and nonprofits who have united as a movement to combat commercial sexual exploitation in Washington state. SAFE is A phased STRATEGY that addresses the most critical needs in the fight against commercial sexual exploitation in the areas of prevention, intervention, and restoration. Each phase of the strategy is created by experts in the anti-trafficking field, including survivors with lived experience. SAFE is A FUND that receives tax-deductible donations from SAFE partners and community members and invests those funds in qualified, vetted organizations who are moving the needle in fighting commercial sexual exploitation. For us - this is our time that we support SAFE's fundraiser by doing something that we love. It's a push-up-a-thon for LRF Executive Director, John Dammarell... It could be a walk-a-thon for you.
