One in Four Grandparent Headed Households experienced food insecurity between 2019-2020, Grandfamilies, also called kinship families, are families in which grandparents, other relatives, or close family friends are raising children because their parents cannot. Grandfamilies and kinship families experience disproportionately higher rates of hunger. A quarter of these families experience feelings of worry about whether or not they will be able to eat. It's a heartbreaking statistic, and we want to see it change for the better. Usually, a trip to Hawaii comes with excitement and thoughts of sunsets, sea breezes, and paradise. Boarding the plane at LAX just now was none of that. On a plane with just a few others traveling to Maui, I think we all have a sense of what's ahead. But this is one of the things I treasure about being part of the No Child Hungry team. The fires are still burning, but children and families are suffering, so we don't wait. And, thanks to the generosity of so many and some wonderful partnerships, we don't have to. So, Maui, we're on the way. We've got a quarter million meals and pallets of rescue buckets in transit. We can't wait to be with you, to be beside you. To help any way we can. For everyone else, those who I know would be right there with us were it not for professional and personal obligations, we need you, too. For those of you who know me, you’ll know we gift and donate whenever and wherever we can. Good causes, charities, people in need, we always try to help. Giving a meal to a homeless person, paying for a meal for a group of soldiers at a motorway services, even passing compliments, holding doors without fear of the woke culture cancelling us for making an assumption someone would actually like a door being held open for them! I call people Sir and Ma’am because I was brought up in the knowledge these were respectful terms and that’s what I was brought up to be, respectful. So, good deeds is something inbuilt in me, my family and my companies. The world is becoming more divisive, people more insular and angry. So, I am calling on all the brilliant people I know and deal with to help. Pay It Forward has always been a mantra of mine. Do something nice, say something nice and ask for the recipient to Pay It Forward. One small nice thing can then spiderweb outwards and circle the world in no time. It only takes one good deed to change the world, or someone’s view of the world at least. Do something nice for someone and you know how good it makes you feel. Do it every day and see how that makes you feel. If your good deed is then paid forward, we can - in our own way - start to turn the clock back to humanity and togetherness. Charity = helping the poor. It’s giving money to issues, not people.  Just somebody in a commercial. Charity comes from the Latin word caritas. Caritas means “a dear and costly form of love”. It’s hard to love a cause with caritas love. But you could love a person that way. Caritas isn’t just an exchange of money. Every day, you can appreciate someone: “Hey, thanks for all your wisdom.” It may not feel like you’re solving global poverty, but it’s important. Don’t just give to a cause and call it “charity”.
