People usually wonder why women empowerment is still a big issue in this country yet there are more educated and empowered women than ever. Its because of the glass ceiling phenomenon. It refers to invisible barriers that hinder women’s career growth. Many women with education still find it challenging to break through this ceiling and reach top positions. In Uganda and beyond, women are the usually backbone of many families and communities, driving positive change every day but at their own expense. This could be because of cultural and social norms, failure to balance their family and work time, gender based violence and many other reasons. It's time to amplify women’s voices, support their dreams, and work towards a brighter, more equitable future for all Ugandan women. #womenequity #womenempowerment

It is exactly two weeks to the 2024 International Women's Day - themed #InspireInclusion. Many organisations and communication teams have started creating flyers for women's themed corporate webinars and empowerment brunches. There is a lot of hype around picture-perfect IWD poses and women-centric social media content. Although the intention is to celebrate women, I find it hard to believe that these initiatives make a real impact in inspiring inclusion. According to EFInA's Women Economic Empowerment Report, 47% of Nigerian women are illiterate, which is higher than the 28% of men who are illiterate. Additionally, 39.9% of Nigerian women are financially excluded from financial services, which means they rely heavily on family and friends for sustenance. While brunches and seminars are good gestures, there is an urgent need for organisations to implement tangible initiatives that will make a difference in bridging the gender inclusion gap in Nigeria. At SDGforHer, we believe that it's not only about brunches and seminars; it's about creating real change and empowering women to break free from systemic barriers. We want to create a world where inclusion is more than a theme but a tangible reality for all. #womenempowerment #corporatecommunications #SDGforHer #IWD2024 #IWD #SDG5 #sdgs2030

Day 05 - Kigali Diaries - Addressed a Global Audience at the Closing Ceremony of Women Deliver 2023 The last day of the Women Deliver Conference was the most memorable one. Not only did the day kick off with a flash mob for gender justice which was organised by YUWA Nepal but I also received the space to address a global audience of over 2000 people at the Closing Ceremony of Women Deliver 2023. Walking upto the stage with Sarah and Satish to speak to the Women Deliver 2023 participants as a Women Deliver Young Leader 2020 and a Member of the Youth Planning Committee, was exciting to say the least. It was a moment of great pride to start the speech with 'Ayubowan' and to carry the island state identity in a global stage. The following are key takeaways from the address. 1.Women Deliver 2023 as one of the largest gatherings of youth leaders advocating for and working on all dimensions of women and young girls rights including SRHR, highlighted two important aspects of a post-COVID world. The first is that youth leadership especially youth female leadership has to go beyond the mere recognition of the potential of youth leadership and extend to mainstreaming such leadership at all levels. The second is the need for youth leadership in rethinking, restructuring and reimplementing development systems and policies catering to women and young girls. 2.This Conference which was organised for the first time in the African Continent, encouraged the participants to reflect and rethink our advocacy, partnership and mainstreaming approaches in women and young girls rights protection with a specific focus on SRHR. This is important because the empowerment of women and young girls requires development leaders to ask the important question 'do our interventions really work?' and many times face the difficult truth that we have imperfect solutions which can constantly be improved and localised. As we unite to celebrate International Women’s Day, we are reminded of the progress made in advancing the rights and opportunities of women and girls around the world. However, it is crucial to acknowledge that there is still much work to be done, especially when it comes to addressing and rectifying the marginalized opportunities that persist for women and girls in various sectors. Today, we extend an earnest call to organizations that are committed to creating lasting change and fostering an environment where every woman and girl can thrive. It is time for us to stand together and be the change we want to see in the world. Ask Versus How: versus.africa/demo #VersusAfrica #IWD2024 #HappyInternationalWomensDay
