🎤 At the recent World Hydrogen North America Congress, we were pleased to chat with Simon Cleghorn, Associate at W. L. Gore & Associates In this interview, Simon explains W.L. Gore's role in the hydrogen value chain, the challenges faced for the hydrogen market in North America and insights for the hydrogen industry. W.L. Gore have launched a new membrane for the water electrolysis space as a Gen I product to allow us to understand long term needs for the industry. "A lot of the challenges come from this being a newer industry... on the technical side, I think there 's a real need in the industry to demonstrate lifetime in the application in the field... On the market side, I think the challenges are really around where are the government incentives and investments going to fall out? I think a lot of the market is waiting to really understand what's going to happen. That impacts us as well as a supplier to this industry. 🎤 We enjoyed catching up with Blane Vincent, the Vice President, Commercial at S&B at the recent World Hydrogen North America Congress in Houston. Blane explains the company’s involvement in the blue and green hydrogen market, including the first PEM electrolyzer facility in the United States. Blane also speaks to the challenges hydrogen clients face when developing these types of projects and how to overcome such challenges. 🎤 At the recent World Hydrogen North America Congress, Henrik Rasmussen, the Managing Director at Topsoe, joined us for an interview to explore the work they are doing in the low carbon hydrogen, ammonia and SAF space. "All the projects that we have ongoing on the gulf coast- it's pretty much all for energy carrier. We can make the blue ammonia in the US at scale at a very affordable CapEx and OpEx and still allow us to ship it to Asia-Pacific for use as a low energy source. There is stakeholder engagement going on on a weekly basis with local industry and Trans Link, our national bus operator have, at the moment, 20 plus hydrogen buses." 💬"I mentioned the Long Mountain project with Energia - they have a one-megawatt electrolyser, and they have just started to produce green hydrogen through that project...We also have the likes of Mannok, and Mana who have a huge plan - they're in the cement making business so it's very energy intensive and they see green hydrogen as the way to decarbonize their process." 💬"They do have plans to have a renewable valley, where they will produce their own green hydrogen on site through wind and through PV. 🎤 At the recent World Hydrogen North America Congress, we were pleased to be joined by Joshua Yun, Senior Vice President of Sales & Marketing at Virginia Transformer Corp. Joshua Yun takes us through Virginia Transformer’s journey to becoming the largest U.S.-owned transformer manufacturer in North America and the challenges in the hydrogen market. "Any hydrogen plant required transformers...but at this point, all the transformer suppliers are full. During the pandemic, a lot of projects were put on hold. Then once the pandemic was over, all the pent up demand released at once like a perfect storm. Lead times can be anywhere from 1-3 years... unless you are planning that into your overall project schedule, you're going to face a major issue." "We offer the shortest lead time in the electrical industry in North America. 🎤 Dave Alonso, the Chief Commercial Officer at HyAxiom, Inc. took the time to speak with us at the recent World Hydrogen North America Congress in Houston. Dave tells us more about the Daesan Green Energy Project, a 50 megawatt pure hydrogen and fuel cell project in operation since 2020, the latest challenges in getting hydrogen projects to FID and which industries will be the first movers for hydrogen offtake. "The sectors that could utilize hydrogen are wide and vast...I think the big thing is the matter of how you can actually deliver the hydrogen to the end users. 🎤 At the recent World Hydrogen North America Congress, we were joined by Cameron Hibbert, the Director for North America at Johnson Matthey. Cameron talks through the recent announcement of their collaboration with thyssenkrupp Uhde on their blue ammonia solution, the importance of partnerships in developing the hydrogen ecosystem the hyper growth' of project development and demand for hydrogen in the pipeline. "The economics need to be world class. The technology needs to be proven and bankable. In a risk adverse industry, you need a strong business case. 💥Now Available: Expert Interview with Brooke Vandygriff, HIF Global In anticipation of World Hydrogen North America 2024, World Hydrogen Leaders CEO Nadim Chaudhry recently spoke to Brooke Vandygriff, HIF Global about her 1.4m tonne eMethanol plant, which has been under development for the past 4 years, and is looking to reach FID by the year end. 💬"So HIF, like you said, stands for Highly Innovative Fuels. We are an eFuels production company - I think most of your audience knows what that is but briefly, for those who don't - we take renewable electricity and split water into hydrogen and oxygen and then take that hydrogen and combine it with captured CO2, before synthesizing it. Our first step is generally [synthesizing it into] methanol and then the methanol can be further refined into gasoline, jet fuel or other derivatives." 💬"Porsche is both an investor in our company and a buyer of the eFuels, and so they take those eFuels and use them in different things, like experience centres, for example.
