June 27 is PTSD Awareness Day. According to https://lnkd.in/gMPFB7mi, approximately 224 million Americans have experienced a traumatic event. Of those 224 million, roughly 44 million, or 20%, may develop PTSD. At any one time, 8% of these 44 million are actively experiencing PTSD symptoms. About 50% of all mental health patients also get diagnosed with PTSD. At WOS, we are proud to prioritize placing veterans in our open IT roles. In fact, through our partnership with Parsons, our service center is consisted entirely of veterans. We are proud and honored to continue this initiative and are forever grateful for their hard work, determination and passion for working for us, and our country.

On National PTSD Awareness Day 2024 – Wise Words From Gary Millions of people worldwide are living with PTSD. Stemming from deeply distressing experiences, it profoundly impacts mental health. 20-25% of Veterans and 1 in 5 in the Police Service may experience PTSD after service. But there’s always hope. Management and recovery are possible with resilience, treatment, and key support. Organisations, like PTSD999, can offer crucial help. Supporting those in the Emergency Services and their families, Gary Hayes, PTSD999 Co-Founder & CEO, reminds us: “You are not weak for struggling. Seeking help is a sign of strength and resilience. Don't hesitate to reach out to your colleagues, friends, family, or trusted healthcare professionals for support. “Most importantly, have compassion for yourself. Acknowledge the challenges you face and be kind to yourself throughout this festive season. You have dedicated your life to serving others, and now is the time to focus on your own well-being.” Together, we can make a huge impact letting everyone know that help is available. Our Veterans Belonging Group works tirelessly to provide resources, build community, and advocate for the needs of our veteran colleagues. We believe in creating a space where every voice is heard, and every story is valued. Today, we encourage everyone to take the time to learn more about PTSD, share information to raise awareness, and offer support to those who may be struggling. Small gestures of understanding and compassion can make a profound difference. To all our veterans and service members: we see you, we support you, and we stand with you. June 27 is PTSD Screening Day, a reminder to prioritize your mental well-being. If you're struggling with symptoms of PTSD, self-screening could be the first step toward getting the care you need. However, remember that the results of a self-screen are not a substitute for a clinical diagnosis. Seeking professional treatment is crucial if you are struggling with the effects of trauma. http://ow.ly/30et104LZUe

Confronting thoughts associated with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) can be difficult. Therefore, some people try to block out these thoughts by avoiding them altogether. While this may bring temporary relief, it only allows the strength of the symptoms associated with PTSD to grow. Soon, they may turn to substances and avoidance to help cope. A better understanding that avoidance is a core root symptom of PTSD is the first step to healing at the cellular level. Also, spotting the early signs of avoidance and knowing when it is time to seek professional counsel can be critical in treating PTSD before any long-term side effects manifest. June is PTSD Awareness Month, shedding light on the impact of this condition that affects about six percent of the population at some point in their lives. PTSD is a psychological injury that can impact any person of any age after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event. Such traumatic events might include military combat, sexual or physical violence, natural disasters, or severe accidents. Following a traumatic event, it's common to experience stress reactions like upsetting memories, feeling on edge, or difficulty sleeping. However, if these symptoms persist for more than a few months, it may indicate PTSD. Symptoms can include nightmares, avoidance of trauma-related situations, heightened reactions, anxiety, or depression, impacting social, work, and daily life. During PTSD Awareness Month, let's work together to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and support those affected by PTSD. Understanding and empathy can make a significant difference in the lives of those living with this condition. #PTSDAwarenessMonth #MentalHealthAwareness #EndTheStigma
