Advice to new Pepperdine grads: Creatively and intentionally develop purpose, service, and leadership in your work. It's possible to be a self-centered worker in the nonprofit sector, just as much as it's possible to be an accountant or marketing exec living out selfless service. Don't let assumptions about your industry or seniority limit your intentional cultivation and application of core values and character. What would you add? 💙🧡 🌊

Equinox has always been such an amazing company in regards to the brand and architectural design. I have been pursuing Design since 2010, learning the technical work and then grew fascinated by Brand Identity while earning my degree in Visual Communication Design. I was lucky to have been able to work for Equinox, a company that implemented strategic thinking within every bit of their internal framework. I was even luckier to been part of Nor Cal, a growing region, that gave me the opportunity to observe the strategic thinking behind the business & operations. I tried to adopt everything I observed into every piece of design I created; foreshadowing any objections to ideas and plans I might have. As a young 19 year old in the Financial District, I was able to express my thoughts and opinions with not only the team, but the members working in tech. It was an experience of a lifetime to have had the opportunity to have conversations with people who had been involved in the process of creating or using platforms and softwares that I had been very much familiar with as a designer. As the region grew, I could see why certain decisions were made in regards to club location, architectural design, marketing etc. In 2023, when the “We Don’t Speak January” campaign began, I remember the controversy it brought up and listening to the conversations my co-workers were having. I never said much, until a trainer asked for my personal opinion. It was like a flood gate opening because I could see every reason behind every design decision, especially after having analyzed the current market along with the past campaigns. I spoke objectively in regards to the campaign and tried to help my co-worker understand the importance of the campaigns end goal. I mentioned that the emotional reaction he had was soely due to a campaign that had not been made to target him, but another audience. Those who join Equinox do not join because of the new year, those who join Equinox are the ones who have a different perspective on the value health and wellness brings into their life. The investment made to become a member is an act of committing to oneself and being along side like minded individuals. Meaning that those who decide to join, don’t wait, but commit at any time of the year that they decide to make the lifestyle change in bettering themselves physically and mentally. The amount of feedback I’ve received after asking other membership advisors about their experience and what current trends they see within their club, solidified Equinox’s 2023 campaign. Many members see Equinox as an investment, and although it might have been, out of the budget they set out for themselves, they decided that the ROI was there because the COI they encountered when visualizing their future was far worse than the ladder. Equinox as a brand will always push you to elevate yourself within a nueroprotective environment of other like minded individuals.
At 18, I was rejected from NYU ❌ Exactly 10 years later, the work we created at Equinox is now taught at NYU’s MBA program🎓 Endless thanks to my team, COLLINS, and all of Equinox who made ‘We Don’t Speak January’ a reality. Together, we ushered in the best January in the company’s history and created provocative, award-winning work. Here’s to 2024 and all of its potential.

It’s B Corp Month! 🎉 With this being the first for Avery & Brown | B Corp™, the entire team came together over the past couple of weeks to put our heads together and create a strategy to get everyone involved in the celebrations. For my first task during #BCorpMonth, Tilly and I were tasked with completing B Lab UK’s ‘Behind the B’ training course for some personal development. This course is useful for anyone looking to learn a bit more about the B Corp movement and what it has set out to achieve. This course takes around 90 minutes and is a great introduction to what B Corp is all about. 👇 https://lnkd.in/e-ME9kP9 Tilly’s also been putting a lot of work into pushing our #OperationRegeneration efforts forward, and I’m sure she’ll be giving some updates on how that’s going throughout the rest of March. Keep your eyes peeled over at Avery & Brown | B Corp™ and the rest of the team’s pages (Russ, Tim, Beth, and Tilly) for more updates on what we’re up to over the next few weeks. #RegenerativeBusiness #BCorp #Sustainability

The character limit can be so limiting…alas the limit does not exist. *jokes* I want to add that the Equinox 2023 “We Don’t Speak January” Campaign message should not be mistaken for the sales strategy that went into developing the campaign. Marketing campaigns are always met to move the target audience with emotion to prepare and set the tone for the fiscal year to come. A well thought out marketing strategy involves leveraging the KPI metrics while maintaining the brand values. There is a reason why they are, Equinox. Look closely into the name of the company and you will realize that it is no surprise why they are the leading luxury brand within the fitness industry. You would be lucky to be a Design student attending a university with a professor that provided a case study that cut deep into Equinox’s Brand identity. Even luckier if they dove deep into the marketing and sales strategies that went into maintaining the ethos of the brand.

Sometimes you get rejected not because you are not good enough. Sometimes you get rejected because you are too good and can’t be fit in a box. A great example of how underdogs return to places they have been rejected from with a proof of what they can achieve without validation.
