A heartfelt thanks to the esteemed Chicago Tribune Editorial Board for highlighting this important issue impacting our industry and those who choose to exhibit in Chicago. https://tse.pub/3RDe1op I am glad Trade Show Executive magazine helped frame this issue for the Chicago Trib Editorial Board. It’s hard when municipalities signal a lack of understanding and lack of support for trade shows which are a real shot in the arm for local economies. Chicago Tribune, please consider that one attendee spends an average of $1,100 per show then read our dashboard: https://tse.pub/4aeSmds It adds up spectacularly! AND, yes, you can bet that the fine folks from Las Vegas and Orlando are coming for Chicago business. Chicago Tribune Excerpt: “Orlando and Las Vegas must be salivating at all the potential new business. Business representatives applauded the retreat from that chaos, but also categorized the changes as minimal, overall. The ordinance still is fatally flawed and likely to lead to needless litigation between businesses and workers. We wouldn’t be surprised to see yet more amendments in the future. It’s highly unusual for the City Council to “fix” an ordinance just weeks after passing it. Blame the embarrassment on the rush to enact something Johnson promised during his campaign and a lack of subsequent willingness to listen to voices that laid out the practical concerns.” SISO - Society of Independent Show Organisers International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE) Events Industry Council Exhibitions & Conferences Alliance Exhibition Services & Contractors Association Exhibitor Group #tradeshows #exhibtion #eventprofs

QT22 is out now and we're capturing the post-election mood…plus a whole lot more! Highlights include: 🔴 💯 Labour in power: With a landslide victory in the bag and a mandate for meaningful change what does Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer need to do during his government’s first 100 days in power? Matthew Johnson, chair of the Common Sense Policy Group, sat down with Simon Rushworth to suggest a sensible way forward. 🗞 🖊 Now for the North East…: Hot on the heels of Edition 21 asking 100 people to reveal their one wish (in one paragraph) for a new parliamentary term, North East Mayor Kim McGuinness follows up on that regional manifesto by writing exclusively for The QT. It’s a must-read. 🎭 🎾 Culture: Wimbledon’s in full swing and we dispatched The QT’s cultural big hitter, David Whetstone, to run the rule over red hot new play All White Everything But Me as it moves from the Alphabetti Theatre to the Live Theatre. Different stage, same ace show? David delivers his essential verdict. ⛵ Making waves in business: It’s the little known boat manufacturer that’s a big player in international racing. Jane Hall discovers Ovington Boats — tucked away in a remote corner of North Tyneside and establishing the winning link between North Shields and Paris 2024. 🔗 Collaboration: We’re all about working together for the greater good at The QT and after this week’s predictable election blowout, the ever-astute Arlen Pettitt calls for a new era of collaboration across the North East. Wise words that demand action. 🏢 Hall right now: Tony Henderson’s one of our favourite strorytellers and this week he lifts the lid on Northumberland’s 150 town halls — as a new book celebrating a regional institution hits the shelves. From Humshaugh to Hedgeley, this compelling narrative is well worth your time this weekend. Check out The QT for all of this and more and find out how to subscribe to our FREE weekly newsletter. #northeastnews #politics #policy #generalelection #labour #sirkeirstarmer

ICYMI: Earlier this week, Congressman Owens delivered a powerful speech in support of the Stronger Workforce for America Act - a bipartisan bill that takes a big step towards integrating workforce development and social safety net programs. As Owens eloquently stated, "We need to embrace innovation in our workforce development programs to move our nation forward." This legislation, which includes a "One Door to Work" model similar to the successful program in Utah, has the potential to help lift more workers out of poverty and into fulfilling careers. The Georgia Center for Opportunity, as part of the Alliance for Opportunity coalition, has been a leading advocate for these types of common-sense reforms. Check out the video to hear Owens make the case: https://lnkd.in/gQ8k2dHm This bill is an important first step, but there is more work to do to build a workforce system that works for all Americans. Let's keep the momentum going! #StrongerWorkforceForAmerica #WorkforceReform #OneDoortoCareers #EmploymentOpportunities #PovertyReduction
