As China's cities become increasingly crowded, innovative solutions are emerging to meet the challenges of urbanization. This Liziba Station in Chongqing, China, is a remarkable example of urban planning and architectural innovation. Located on Line 2 of Chongqing’s monorail system, the station is unique because the train passes directly through the sixth to eighth floors of a 19-story residential building. This design was not just a creative solution but a necessary one due to Chongqing's rugged, mountainous terrain and the need to maximize urban space in this densely populated city.⁠ ⁠ The project took about two years to design, and special measures were implemented to minimize noise and vibration, ensuring that the living conditions of residents were not adversely affected. Noise levels are kept below 60 decibels, comparable to the sound of a normal conversation, and the building structure was reinforced to accommodate the train's passage.⁠ ⁠ Liziba Station has become a tourist attraction, drawing visitors fascinated by the idea of a train running through a building. Budapest ONE and Etele Plaza are two pillars of a new city centre, South Buda in District XI, Budapest. The biggest #architectural challenge in both projects was to combine the size of the building and the human scale. 🏗️👥 Paulinyi & Partners did the same initial research in both cases but ended up with entirely different structures because of their various functions. The plaza site was a peripheral area to host a whole city centre later on, in which the building would merge into the future architectural fabric without being ostentatious. The main entrance, with its vast glass wall, gives a cross-section of the world inside. This is not common in mall architecture today, but we wanted to make Etele Plaza an outward-facing, open building, not just a shopping centre but an exciting new meeting place for the people of South Buda. 🤝 #futureal #southbuda #eteleplaza #budapestone

“Compared with residential, hotel, entertainment and other types of projects, implementing the garden concept into the office building does have its challenges,” Moshe Safdie told Wallpaper* China. “Generally speaking, the main purpose of developers or operators of hotels and residential buildings is to attract more people. But in an office project, it is difficult to directly present data at the beginning to show how much of an effect a garden, a space that cannot directly yield production benefits, has on the workers.
