The Confederacy Is Now Truly A Lost Cause On All U.S. Army Posts "The names of Confederate leaders who took up arms against the United States in the Civil War have been fully stripped from Army installations, as the former Fort Gordon in Georgia was renamed Fort Eisenhower on Friday." --------------------------------------------------------------------------- It's still hard for me to believe that it took over 150 years to remove the names of treasonous Army officers from several U.S. Army posts. It's even harder for me to believe why they were named after these loathsome individuals in the first place. Yes, I am aware of the cowardly political reasons why this was done, namely to appease Southern members of Congress and 'The Lost Cause.' But understanding the reason doesn't make me like it any better.
