The Health and Social Care Secretary has named problem periods, women’s health research and support for domestic and sexual abuse victims among the government’s priorities for women’s health in 2024. Speaking at the Women’s Health Summit in central London to mark the second year of the landmark Women’s Health Strategy for England, Victoria Atkins said it would also prioritise improving maternity care and support for mothers who suffer birth trauma. This follows a raft of successes over the strategy’s first 12 months, including reducing the cost of HRT for nearly half a million women, and the rollout of specialist women’s health hubs in every local health area. The strategy also championed the creation of a new dedicated women’s health section of the NHS website, providing updated information, advice and practical resources for women’s health across the life course. #womenshealth #femtech #healthtech #digitalhealth #healthcare #healthcareinnovation #startups #innovation #health #medtech #healthcareresearch #femalehealth #genderhealthgap #reproductivehealth #venturecapital #vc #funding #investment #grants #maternalhealth #periods #menstruation #sexualhealth #sextech #menopause #fertility #pregnancy #postpartum #eggfreezing #IVF #healthequity #pelvicfloor #pelvicfloorhealth #hormonehealth

Women's health back in the spotlight to mark the second year of the government's 10-year strategy. The Health Secretary spoke from her own personal experience while reinforcing the strategy's priorities: "Some mums endure simply unacceptable care, and live with the consequences of that trauma for the rest of their lives." Key points from the speech: 🔺 Improve maternity services 🔻 Reduce traumatic birth experiences 💰 £50m of new funding to tackle maternal disparities 😢 293 women died in pregnancy between 2020-2022 Lot of heat and noise in this area but time will tell if genuine improvements are being made. Is the funding enough? Do we have enough staff and staff with the right skills / education to support these priorities? Can the NHS - with so many other challenges - grip and focus on implementing the strategy? #womenshealth #womenshealthmatters #nhsengland #nhs #nhsworkforce Women's Health Professional Care Emma Pappenheim Lucca Finch Victoria Dunsmore https://lnkd.in/eAASNgAG

It is very welcoming news that the UK government has announced a package of new measures to boost the health and wellbeing of women and girls. (https://lnkd.in/eju6fgnC) It includes o the development of a new AI tool o creating women’s health hubs o increasing access to vital health information, etc. It will provide information for women on various health issues including periods, gynaecological conditions, fertility, pregnancy, heart health and cancers. And here is the NHS women’s health page: https://lnkd.in/er98JqX6 Could it challenge the stigma of talking about sexual&reproductive health and other unspoken issues, such as baby loss and IVF? I met a few women; for example, one who asked me where she could deal with her traumatic baby loss experience and mental health while on the NHS’s long waiting list as a BAME woman, and the other who met different GPs to get a proper explanation of contraception and period issues. With the welcoming news, still asking; What is the gap? and how can we achieve sexual & reproductive justice? #NHS #Womens_health #sexual_and_reprodcutive_health #wellbeing #UK

Researchers at RUSH have revealed that urinary incontinence, a common issue affecting 30% to 50% of women, could have further health implications. The study, published in the January issue of Menopause, suggests that the frequency and volume of urinary leakage are associated with increased odds of disability in midlife women. Medical Press reported that Dr. Sheila Dugan, Chair of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at RUSH, emphasised the tendency to overlook urinary incontinence symptoms until they become irritating or start limiting physical and social activities. “Because this study suggests that urinary incontinence is associated with disability, exploring treatment options in the early stages may help decrease this outcome in midlife women,” she explained. #urinaryincontinence #womenshealth #femtech #healthtech #digitalhealth #healthcare #healthcareinnovation #startups #innovation #health #medtech #healthcareresearch #femalehealth #genderhealthgap #reproductivehealth #funding #investment #grants #maternalhealth #periods #menstruation #sexualhealth #sextech #menopause #fertility #pregnancy #postpartum #eggfreezing #IVF #healthequity #pelvicfloor #pelvicfloorhealth #hormonehealth

According to a study that was recently published in The Lancet Global Health, at least 40 million women are likely to experience a long-term health problem caused by childbirth annually. This can range from lower back pain and depression to dyspareunia and secondary infertility. The scope of the problem, which affects more than a third of women in some capacity, highlights the need for greater recognition within the healthcare system of these issues, and a wider effort to promote health equity. #WomensHealth #GlobalHealth #HealthEquity #Childbirth
