2024 International Women's Day campaign theme is 'Inspire Inclusion'. As menopause in the workplace training providers we strive to inspire organisations, large and small, to be inclusive of their menopausal employees and any member of their teams, regardless of age, or gender to feel supported in their working environment. Organisations need to consider: 👉 When women aren't present, we must ask: "If not, why not?" 👉 When women are discriminated against, we must call out poor practice. 👉 When the treatment of women is not equitable, we must take action. To truly include women means workplaces need to openly embrace their diversity of race, age, ability, faith, body image, and how they identify. This can be achieved by: 🙌 Recruiting, retaining and developing diverse talent 🙌 Building an infrastructure meeting the needs of women 🙌 Helping women make informed decisions about their health 🙌 Providing women with access to quality education and training 🙌 Addressing further areas supporting the advancement of women World-renowned feminist, journalist and activist, Gloria Steinem, is reported to have said: "The story of women's struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organization but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights." 𝘚𝘰𝘤𝘪𝘦𝘵𝘺'𝘴 𝘪𝘨𝘯𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘴𝘦 𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘶𝘦𝘴 𝘩𝘢𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘢 𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘺 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘳𝘦𝘨𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘴 𝘸𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘯'𝘴 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘴 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘢𝘭𝘴𝘰 𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘧𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘤𝘢𝘱𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘴. Inadequate support perpetuates this stigma, leading to women feeling ashamed of a completely natural process. Moreover, the onset of menopause brings its own set of difficulties, with many women facing discrimination and unfair judgments related to their age and perceived capabilities. It's time to break down these barriers and establish a more empathetic & understanding environment in the workplace. 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞 Another significant challenge that women face in the workplace is the multigenerational divide that can often lead to internal conflicts among female employees. 💡 A 2022 study found that nearly 40% of millennial women believed they had experienced workplace rivalry with older female colleagues, while around 55% of older women felt the same about their millennial counterparts. 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘵𝘩 𝘪𝘴, 𝘣𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘪𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘥𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘥𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘲𝘶𝘪𝘳𝘦𝘴 𝘢 𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘧𝘵 𝘪𝘯 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦. Why limit our celebration of women to just one day a year? 💃 Last Friday I felt so pushed to post and didn't have the feeling I had anything interesting to say about it. Until I read Elin Roberts 's post. She summed up some inspiring points of action to be able to celebrate ALL women, every day and not just the "exceptional" ones, for one day a year. Let's all...   ☆ Advocate for equal pay within our organisations and networks. ☆ Promote women into leadership roles where representation is lacking. ☆ Challenge the motherhood penalty by advocating for fair treatment of mothers in terms of flexibility, pay, and promotions. ☆ Reflect on biases we have towards each other. "It's not that women lack confidence, it's that confidence isn't rewarded in women" - Lauren Currie OBE ☆ Embrace failure as part of growth. We can only really succeed if we're given the room to fail. ☆ Buy from women-led/founded businesses.
