Every Opera Singer, Instrumentalists and non musical creative should have a business alongside their art. Each year a small company where a new singer would get to debut a role and get paid for it struggles or shuts down. This puts a lot of stress on the audition season. Singers with the dream of singing full time need to be able to sustain themselves and audition season until the career takes off. If you don't have a trust fund or your families Amex, you need to figure out how to do it on your own. The best thing I did to survive the launch phase was build a business alongside the career. You need something that isn't going to take all your time away from auditions, lessons, coaching and practice time. You need something that will travel with you and has time flexibility. Piano Comics Story time: I met A. when he was 4 , he has a musical ear and was playing on the piano with only 2 fingers like a 🦀. He has an older sister that plays and also has musical ears so the house is filled with piano playing. Once I played 'Moonlight' sonata by Beethoven and since then he's trying to pick it up by ear and now that he's 5 I gave him scores with one arrangement. I haven't seen him for a month due to illness and New Year vacation. The 1st video is our 1st try in which I could not keep the camera straight (when you watch it you'll understand why...) cause I was shocked. Jaw dropped. 2nd video was more 'correct' since he had a stable base with his feet. A. after the 1st video: I can't cause I'm thinking about the pedal. Me: Well, let's do it without. I can't with these kids.
