So I'm a day behind on this but #InternationalWomenInEngingeeringDay is an important day.
Why?
We need more women in engineering and we need more women studying STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths).
Technology is increasing at a rapid pace. We need more women, and more people from minority or underrepresented groups working in STEM so we can drive innovation and mitigate biases more effectively.
Having worked for a very large engineering company I have learnt that one of the most powerful ways to get more women involved in engineering is to expose them to what engineers do from an early age.
In speaking to women (often the only woman in their department, as Irene C. (依莲娜) Wilson BEng(H), MBA, LLM has pointed out) I learnt that they often became an engineer because someone in their family was too. Their father or Uncle.
Other women became an engineer because they learnt about engineering in primary or high school.
If you are trying to attract more women to work in your industry think about how girls and women learn about it.

Today, 23rd June is #internationalwomeninengineeringday , big shout to all those amazing women in my network working in the field of #engineering.
Specially remembering the pioneers….the ones that were for years the only woman, in the department, in the platform, in the plant, in the boat, in the room…you inspired the rest of us to stick in and it was so worth it, thank you!
Celebrate International Women in Engineering Day with my colleague Erika Ryter! She’s leading a panel discussion on June 20 on the “Women in Engineering 2024” virtual event hosted by Canadian Consulting Engineer. Erika’s panel will discuss STEM programs, how we can inspire women engineers from a young age, and how companies can recruit and retain women engineers. #engineer#womeninscience
