🚨 New Baltic Hospitality survey insights: Hospitality industry's “Temperature” check 🌤️ This summer has been exceptionally warm and sunny in the Nordics and Baltics, but beyond the weather, the hospitality industry is feeling some heat of its own. To get a sense of the current "temperature," the New Baltic Hospitality team conducted a short survey, and the results highlighted some key insights that are shaping the industry today: 🔹 Top Challenges remain unchanged: - Workforce shortages remain the top concern, with many companies struggling to fill critical roles. - Taxes and government support come in a close second, reflecting the industry's need for more favourable policies and assistance. - Destination marketing filling the third position showing the need for more efficient marketing results. 🔹 Customer-Centric focus: Hospitality companies are working hard to attract new guests and retain loyal ones. The lack of workforce is pushing businesses to look towards technology and automation to keep operations running smoothly, helping to fill the gap left by staff shortages. 🔹 Key areas that need more attention include: - Skillset improvement: Many employees need upskilling to stay competitive in an evolving industry. - Technology usage: There's a growing recognition that businesses need to better understand what technologies they’re investing in and why. - Process inventory: Some operational processes have become outdated, while new practices that reflect current industry needs are still missing. Any surprises among the answers? Comment below⬇️ #newbaltichospitality #hospitalitysurvey #IndustryInsights #hospitality

Versus July 2019, in July 2024, the average weekly earnings of leisure and hospitality nonsupervisory workers, the lowest earning category of employees, outpaced food-at-home prices. In fact, weekly earnings of leisure and hospitality workers in July 2024 exceeded food-at-home prices by MORE than they did in July 2019. The notion that American families cannot afford groceries today is nonsense. Facts trump bogus talking points.

"You just can't get the staff these days" 🏨🍜 In the last 2 months I've spoken with hundreds of restauranters and hotel managers, and one common issue they are all facing is the hospitality trade is a dying art! 😩 Bloomberg posted in 2021 that that half of US hospitality workers said they wouldn't return to their old jobs, while a third of them said they weren't even planning on returning to the sector! It seems they stuck to their word - people have lost their love for the hospitality profession 🤷🏼♂️ What can the industry do to make staff fall in love with the hospitality trade again?! And in the meantime, how can we ensure standards don't slip while customer expectations continue to rise?! 🤔 #hospitality #hotels #restaurants #Australiahospitality #australiatravel #australiafood #industrytrends #covid #lovewhatyoudo #staffquality #foodandbeverage

Take on the Resilience and Adaptability of the Hospitality Industry! Having been in the hospitality business for a long time, I believe we often underestimate the industry's resilience and adaptability. Occupancy levels are rising and though shown great improvements but haven't really exceeded to pre-COVID levels, and an uncertain economy will probably tighten profits in 2024. Supply chain shortages, inflation, and increasing wages will continue to pressure profit margins, presenting a storm of challenges for the hospitality industry. Staff shortages have significantly impacted the hospitality industry and remain a critical issue. Investing in team training is now more crucial than ever for retention. Lobby groups are also advocating for fair wages and flexible working hours to attract qualified staff. The cost of living crisis has hit the hospitality industry hard, reducing consumer spending and increasing business operating costs. In my opinion, the hospitality industry must attract young talent, leverage technology to enhance roles and customer experiences, and prioritize personalized interactions to adapt to evolving consumer needs and to build more confidence. Reintroducing service points in hotels could be a strategic move to address staffing challenges. Here are some pros and cons to consider: ### Pros: 1. **Employee Motivation**: Service points can boost morale and incentivize employees to provide excellent service, leading to higher guest satisfaction. 2. **Retention**: Offering service points can enhance job satisfaction and loyalty, reducing turnover rates. 3. **Performance-Based Rewards**: Employees are rewarded based on their performance, which can encourage a more productive and customer-focused workforce. 4. **Flexibility**: Service points can be tailored to reward various aspects of performance, from customer service to teamwork. ### Cons: 1. **Cost**: Implementing and managing a service points system can be costly and time-consuming. 2. **Complexity**: The system needs to be transparent and fair, which can be challenging to maintain. 3. **Potential for Discontent**: If not managed well, service points can lead to competition and dissatisfaction among employees. 4. **Integration with Minimum Wage**: Balancing service points with minimum wage requirements can be complex and may require careful planning to ensure compliance with labor laws. Given your background in the hotel industry, you might find that reintroducing service points, if done thoughtfully, could help attract and retain staff by making them feel valued and rewarded for their hard work. What do you think would be the biggest challenge in implementing such a system? #EmployeeMotivation #ServicePoints #HotelStaff #CustomerSatisfaction #EmployeeRetention #PerformanceRewards #HospitalityIndustry #HotelManagement #StaffIncentives #WorkplaceCulture #EmployeeEngagement #HotelLife #HospitalityExcellence #StaffRecognition #HotelIncentives
