This is more than just news and more than just another platform integration announcement. As a long time proponent of ServiceNow being a true enterprise platform going beyond ITSM to GRC to DevOps, I still see many using this platform as pure ITSM and CMDB for asset tracking that continues to have gaps of >30% accuracy due to lack of embracing this platform as a true source of governance and compliance for cloud workloads, tagging and compliance. All core components of HCLTech CloudSMART’s COSMIC Cloud framework. As I began to help clients build and execute on their cloud strategies, aligning with the 4P’s (Process-Policy-People-Platforms) of Modern Cloud, I came to know and embrace the Wiz platform. Most would leverage this platform for “in the cloud” security and compliance rather than leveraging it as a cloud workload metric at time of instance request and build from an internal cloud service catalog. This collaboration and tight integration goes beyond ITSM and beyond monitoring cloud configurations as it is now possible to embed this into the cloud intake process. Much like a FinOps Forward approach to cloud whereby we build the most modern cloud template that already has strong FinOps and governance built into it, so that once on cloud we know that we are in the best possible configuration standards while adhering to evolving policy changes. Is the cloud more secure than on-prem? It could be, but.. In most cases, the question of cloud vs. on-prem security isn't about which is better, it's about how they differ. Cloud security: ✅ Less security controls for the end-client to control and manage. ❌ New security concerns like APIs, identities, trusted IPs and safeguarding data. Bottom line, a system connected to the internet is never secure. Therefore, the question of whether to place your clients’ assets and resources in the cloud or on-prem boils down to their business use case. 🗄️On-premises is better when they need more control. ☁️ Cloud is better when they need more agility and managed services. BTW, you can always help them transition from one -> to the other. As an MSP/MSSP, it's important to develop a skill set that covers both on-prem and cloud (and hybrid) practices. Resources like events, security training and online articles can help, as well as technologies that automate security, like vCISO platforms.
