The real problem with "ob*sity" isn't as much in people's body size as the weight of the stigma they must endure.

Parkinson’s patients CAN reverse some of the symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease (Pd). I did and have been living a normal life ever since 2002. Many others are doing the same!
Being diagnosed with a chronic illness often results in changes in physical appearance and bodily dysfunction which may dramatically distort self-concept, and PD is no exception. Judgements are made about people with PD (i.e., stigma), particularly those with visible symptoms like stooped posture, gait abnormalities, facial masking and tremors, which connote disability and perpetuate negative stereotypes and subsequent social devaluation. Even though one may be able to conceal a stigmatizing characteristic (e.g., tremor), the anxiety associated with the possibility of being identified as a person with a disability, being isolated and being diminished in character can result in considerable stress. Depending on the individual, the overt traits that can be most disturbing to PWP include tremors, excessive saliva and drooling, gait disturbances, dyskinesia, freezing and facial masking. One study found more than 50% of patients with PD conceal their diagnosis, trying to mask some of their clinical symptoms or even avoid appearing in public to avoid what may be perceived as scrutiny and judgement. This can be referred to as health-related stigma, characterized by “exclusion, rejection, blame, or devaluation resulting from experience, perception, or anticipation of negative social judgement owing to a person's health condition”. https://lnkd.in/exZ4cWDk #reverseparkinsonsdisease #johnpepperrpd

Glimmers are the opposite of our neurological triggers ✨ This refers to sensory information that calms and regulates our nervous system. 🧬 We all have glimmers, the key is noticing them. As humans we are naturally biased toward negative information, therefore it is much easier to identify what sensory information is triggering for us, e.g. we may easily notice if we get more irritable if we overheat or there are loud or screechy noises around. However, a healthy tool is identifying our glimmers. When moments make us feel safe and calm, acknowledge what sensory information you experience, e.g. is this a firm hug or the feel of a soft jumper on your skin? These moments are key for our regulation and neurological health ✨ #RegulationWednesday #CalmAndRegulate #Glimmers #NervousSystem

People have been asking me about my inflammation, what happened and how the anti-inflammatory techniques particularly work. So here's the latest Blog post giving you the links to the Science; yes, science, it's not woo-woo. ✅Scientifically, there is a link between inflammation and cell regeneration; fact. ✅The WHO and Harvard state that it is the biggest killer of our time, linked to cancer and Alzheimer's - it's the root. ✅ ⚫️ people die disproportionality (no s***); you just have to look at the world today and see the inequities and injustices in plain sight. But guess what? This affects ⚪ people, too, just like we have a mental health crisis now. Dehumanization and how you treat the most marginalised in society eventually affects us all. ✅ Scientifically, the GuaSha process is linked to your microcirculation, improving it by 400%, and lymphatic drainage. Allowing you to flush out inflammation from your system and remove stuck energy. A great tool, particularly for ⚫️ people, people of colour and marginalised groups in frequent fight or flight. All links are in the new blog. This is why I am setting up a Sanctuary for you to give up my Sundays in 2024; if you want to be a part of the community, regain your health by being able to remove deadly inflammation yourself, and have youthful energy, let's talk. https://lnkd.in/ees53_K9 #antiinflammatory #wellbeing #guasha #fightorflight #guasha #blacklinkedin #bipoc #bipocmentalhealth #marginalizedcommunities #marginalized #blackcommunity #blackwomen #systematicx #speakingtruthtopowers #theantiinflammatorysanctuary
