As the Grand Re-Opening of my synagogue, the ISAAC AGREE DOWNTOWN SYNAGOGUE, approaches, I want to share part of why we are so #successful in attracting young congregants and meeting #fundraising goals that might seem insane for a 3.5 person staff. 1. There are no dues, but we are building a strong culture of #RecurringGiving 2. Our High Holiday services don’t require tickets, are #free, and even RSVP in advance is functionally optional. (But please RSVP if you’re coming!) 3. Our staff is amazing, but the secret to our fundraising muscle is the fact that there are #funders who want Detroit to succeed and want the #JewishCommunity in this city to thrive. 4. Young people are moving to the city and having families here. Are there problems in #Detroit? Of course. But it’s a great city with a thriving Black middle class, great food, world-class arts, general convenience, nice amenities, and a much lower crime rate than you think. 5. Our rabbi, Ariana Silverman, leads with kindness, joy, a welcoming spirit, and an unshakable commitment to #SocialJustice. #nonprofit #SuccessStory

Here’s a case study on non-profit branding, bringing a powerful and important purpose to life. Check it out on our new website.
TACAW (THE ARTS CAMPUS AT WILLITS) is the premier destination for performing arts and local assembly in Colorado's Roaring Fork Valley. Substance Collective designed the identity and visual system inspired by the architecture of the TACAW building and the surrounding mountains, as well as capturing the organization's purpose to “Bring Performance to the People.” See the full case study here: https://lnkd.in/gFnRsK_B #BrandIdentity #Branding #NonProfitBrands

𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺: 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 'The hangover after the museum party: institutions in the US are facing a funding crisis' As the baby-boomer generation of major donors pulls back or dies off, museums are struggling to attract their heirs’ interest. In this article, the first in a two-part series by Julia Halperin in The Art Newspaper on the future of museum fundraising, Adrian Ellis, founder of AEA Consulting notes: “The reckoning is slow—it’s an erosion of energy, acquisitions and programming...It’s a story of energy seeping out.” Read the full article here:

This time of year I think a lot about organizations that help others and how it can be difficult for them to get the word out to the general public. For example, https://lnkd.in/emms3Ghd Much is being done to raise awareness for our Veterans like the amazing National World War II museum in New Orleans. But there are far too many Americans that are simply unaware of foundations, museums, even the Library of Congress' efforts to preserve and tell Veterans' stories. The competition for the general public's attention is fierce. That's why I want to take the stories to where the general public is - to airports, schools, sporting events, concerts, fairs, tradeshows, visitor centers, and everywhere the public gathers. To quickly setup popup galleries with a dozen or more framed interactive displays. The goal? To generate awareness and tell Veterans' stores where people gather. Displays built or assembled in America to honor Americans that can quickly be moved from place to place. To be at events spreading awareness. Over the past two years I have finally completed the design for DiLithium interactive battery-powered displays that will be assembled in Massachusetts. I am currently finalizing ways to build them and to create popup galleries featuring Veterans' stories. I ask for your help, my LinkedIn connections, to help me connect with the organizations and people who think, as I do, that this is important. #VeteransStories #DirectToPublic #BatteryPoweredDisplays #MadeInUSA #DiLithium #Interactive #GoWherePeopleAre #NeverHurtsToAsk

Philanthropy and Arts & Culture institutions have the power to bring about significant change by addressing funding inequalities. By examining the dynamics of donor relations, museum exhibitions, and the struggles faced by theaters, we can begin to shift cultural hierarchies and create a more equitable society. One example of how philanthropy can make a difference is by supporting underfunded arts programs in BIPOC communities. By providing financial resources and opportunities for artists and performers in these areas, we can help level the playing field and ensure that everyone has access to the arts. Read our Op-Ed by Monica Fernandez to learn about the internal assessment of upending cultural hierarchies in Arts and culture: https://buff.ly/3qPAyDZ

With ONE WEEK left to submit your #WMA2024 proposal, consider the many ways balance and restoration work can happen in your museum. Read the below piece for inspiration!
In 2020, Yale Union made the bold decision to gift its building to the Native Arts and Cultures Foundation and dissolve as a nonprofit. In this Q&A, learn how they proved alternative ways of restoring balance beyond the focus of museum repatriation and restitution efforts on collections—setting an example for the future of collaborative and community stewardship. https://lnkd.in/ghtafSd9
