Michael Dowling has consistently encouraged Northwell Health team members to explore new paths for innovation. Within Northwell Holdings, we were tasked with identifying the most pressing problems and developing relevant solutions which would be impactful across the healthcare landscape. Our partnership with Aegis Ventures has resulted in the launch of four companies which represent the beginning of multiple collaborations within an expanded healthcare system ecosystem through the Digital Consortium. We believe health care systems are best suited to understand and prioritize changes needed in healthcare, and possess the knowledge and know-how to fix these problems head-on. Through partnership with Aegis, we have been able to explore creating these solutions on a commercial scale so they can be utilized by organizations across the healthcare landscape. The advent of the Digital Consortium marks an important milestone for how health systems can co-develop solutions and unlock the value inherent in our collective enterprises to drive catalytic change and improve care delivery and better support the efforts of our coworkers. Have you ever considered the challenges faced by health innovators in attracting investment in their research? This week I had the pleasure of attending a thought-provoking webinar entitled ‘From Bench to Bedside Accelerating Progress in Healthcare Innovations’. The panel were invited to tackle the key question ‘how do healthcare providers de-risk investments and make investment more appealing’. Whilst new research projects regularly make important discoveries, the significance of said discoveries is not always appreciated by investors. As such, it is crucial that academics, clinicians, and industry collaborate in gathering patient data and effectively communicating the value of research findings to investors. Such collaboration adds gravitas to discoveries and can help turn exciting innovations into tangible progress for patient groups. During the webinar, it was fascinating to hear the panel discuss the growing need for increased patient and clinician involvement in the research process. Greater patient input can help clarify what improvements in patient care or treatments should be targeted. Clarity on what matters to patients and what concerns can be measured can help innovators better appreciate the patient journey and determine whether research should prioritise improvements in diagnosis, care, or treatment. Furthermore, involving clinicians in the research process can help prevent scenarios where research innovations do not fit into the standard care path or workflow. As health systems face numerous challenges, ranging from an aging population, rising costs and increase in certain diseases, it will be fascinating to see how healthcare providers overcome these challenges and and secure investment to improve patient experience.

We hosted our first Sanford Health Innovation Academy with the 2022-2023 administrative fellows! The group met with our innovation and commercialization team to learn about invention disclosures, the basics of clinical research, prototyping, compliance regulations and more. We asked our academy members a few questions about their experience: What was a unique or surprising thing you learned during your time in the Innovations Academy? "Health care is a heavily regulated industry, and bringing forward new products/devices involves many complex steps that can be navigated with the help of Sanford Innovations. It was surprising to learn just how much research had to take place for each new idea to ensure that it can be pursued." - Chase Gerer "I thought it was very interesting what Sanford does to foster innovation among its employees, knowing that often the best ideas come from those with boots on the ground." - Steven Jones, MHA What do you think is the future of technology in health care? "I think that the future of technology in health care will involve the integration of multiple systems to improve patient safety, provide health care providers with more information at a faster rate, and lead to more innovative ways to care for patients." - McKenzie Schmitz What did you learn from the Innovation Academy that you take with you into your career? "I learned that innovation is all around you in health care and it is extremely important that we embrace it!" - JoAnna Putman

Once upon a time, in a world where health felt like a puzzle missing pieces, a group of amazing people came together at the Genesis Value Network Cooperative. They saw problems in healthcare systems – high costs, missing care, and unequal access. Even in rich places, there were issues, and in poorer areas, getting help was really hard. But they had a dream: to fix all this. They wanted to unite important people from healthcare, no matter where they were, and work as a team. They believed that when everyone worked together, they could save money and help more people get the care they needed. And so, the Magixx Protocol was born, a digital space where doctors, scientists, and people who cared could come together, no matter their location. Now, here's the magic part: they didn't need to rely only on traditional ways of doing good. They had a revolutionary idea – Accelerator DAOs. These were like digital meeting places where ideas sparked and solutions were born. No more waiting for grants or struggling to get attention. It was about using the power of technology to make a real impact, faster and smarter. But how did they measure this magic they were creating? Enter the Magixx Tokens – virtual coins that celebrated the good work being done. These tokens showed everyone that what they were doing really mattered, turning efforts into something tangible and meaningful. And there was something amazing called the CAS Value Lens Conceptual Model. Imagine it as special glasses that helped them see how health and wealth were connected. This model showed the world the value of their efforts, making the invisible impact visible to all. Now, here's the best part: they want everyone, young and old, to join this adventure. Whether you're a tech whiz, a caring soul, or both, your place is here. The Magixx Protocol isn't just a story; it's a call to action. Together, with the power of Accelerator DAOs, the enchantment of Magixx Tokens, and the wisdom of the CAS Value Lens, they're changing healthcare and changing lives. So, from tech-savvy youth to the wisest of hearts, let's unite in this story of healing, innovation, and unity. The Magixx Protocol invites us all to be part of something extraordinary, where dreams become reality and health becomes hope.

Our Digital Health Academy’s publication, “The Swiss healthcare system: entering a new digital era”, is live. We thank Redona Hafizi, PhD from TOM Medications for her valuable contribution. She was part of our first cohort of the Digital Health Academy, a 6-month programme for scaleups, working to empower the patients to own and understand their health data better, and shaping the digital future of the healthcare system in Switzerland. This academy is co-organised with Swiss Healthcare Startups. 👉 "TOM Medications’ vision is clear: personalised medicine is the future of healthcare, enabling healthcare providers to shift the emphasis in medicine from reaction to prevention. But personalised medicine needs data to do so. And especially (hard to get) patient-generated data to create unique real-world insights." – Redona Hafizi, PhD Check out the Publication → https://lnkd.in/eYMCSjGR #digitalhealth #healthcaresystem #switzerland #digitalhealthstartup #innovation #patientempowerment
