⚙️ #Steel is a unique material. It is the most widely used metal in the world because it is strong, durable and recyclable, making it the perfect material for everything from skyscrapers to electric vehicles and solar panels. Last year, over 1.8 billion tons of crude steel were produced worldwide. It is foreseeable that this figure will increase as the world heads towards a more sustainable future. But how can these quantities of steel be produced cost-effectively? ℹ️ Answers are given in the following article: https://bit.ly/3KKkjhT #wire #Tube #wireandTube #GreenSteel Image: SMS group

Coolbrook’s RotoDynamic Technology has been hailed by the World Economic Forum as the leading furnace technology for zero carbon steel. The tech is capable of reaching temperatures as high as 1,700°C within milliseconds and with 95% energy efficiency, eliminating 600 megatonnes of global CO2 emissions from steel production annually using renewable electricity. Steel manufacturing accounts for a staggering 11% of global CO2 emissions, making it one of the world's biggest polluters. It is a primary focus for the First Movers Coalition, an initiative by the World Economic Forum and Greenhouse Software, with support from Boston Consulting Group (BCG), Deloitte, ResponsibleSteel™ and RMI, aiming to consolidate demand for near-zero emissions products and services in several of the planet's highest-polluting sectors. RotoDynamic Technology is empowering steel manufacturers to rapidly cut fossil fuel consumption and cost per ton of steel at scale while improving process efficiency. It can be seamlessly integrated into existing steel manufacturing plants, offering use cases across several stages of steel production and compatibility with different steel manufacturing processes — from blast furnace to direct reduction of iron. Steel manufacturers using RotoDynamic Technology can place themselves at the forefront of the change, in alignment with sustainability goals while boosting business performance and longevity. Coolbrook is on its way to decarbonize heavy industry tapping into the whopping €1 trillion industrial heating market. #CleanNewIndustrialEra #decarbonization #electrification #technology #cleantech #heavyindustry #steel #worldeconomicforum

𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐛𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐥 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲 The steel industry is under increasing pressure to reduce its carbon footprint, both environmentally and economically. Currently, it ranks among the largest producers of carbon dioxide globally. The urgency to decarbonize the steel industry comes from its significant role in global carbon dioxide emissions. This challenge is added up to changes in customer preferences and tightening emission regulations. That is why a shift towards more sustainable steel production is necessary now. To address these challenges, the steel industry is exploring various solutions to reduce its carbon footprint. One promising approach is the increased adoption of scrap-based Electric Arc Furnaces (EAFs). By maximizing secondary flows and recycling, EAF-based steel production not only minimizes environmental impact but also offers greater flexibility in response to market demands. This approach enables the production of high-quality steel products while minimizing environmental impact. Furthermore, the integration of hydrogen-based DRI and EAF processes represents a significant step towards emission-free steel production. By replacing fossil fuels with hydrogen derived from renewable sources, this innovative approach promises nearly carbon-neutral steel production. At Luxmet, we are committed to supporting the decarbonization of the steel industry through our innovative solutions, ArcSpec and TempSpec. By optimizing process control and efficiency, ArcSpec and TempSpec contribute to reducing carbon emissions and enhancing sustainability in steel production. Together, let's pave the way for a greener, more sustainable future for the steel industry. #Decarbonization #SteelIndustry #Sustainability #ArcSpec #TempSpec #CarbonFootprint #GreenSteel #ProcessOptimization #Innovation

Sweden-based global steel company SSAB announced a decision to build a fossil-free mini-mill in Luleå, Sweden, capable of producing 2.5 million tonnes of carbon emission-free steel annually. Total investment in the new mill is estimated at €4.5 billion (USD$4.9 billion), and the project is expected to reduce Sweden’s CO2 emissions by 7%. Steelmaking is one of the biggest emitters of CO2 globally, with total greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) from the sector accounting for 7% – 9% of direct emissions from the global use of fossil fuels. According to SSAB, the new mill will run on fossil-free electricity and use only fossil-free energy sources. The project will consist of two electric arc furnaces (EAFs) in place of blast furnaces. As opposed to burning coal, an electric arc furnace uses electric currents to create the heat needed to melt and mold metal. When completed, SSAB said that it will replace its current blast furnace-based production system. https://lnkd.in/eaGx4vts #fossil #steel #emissions #carbon #global #greenhouse #zerobees

The process of making steel has historically resulted in very high emissions of carbon dioxide. Every tonne of steel produces 1.8 tonnes of CO2, representing 9% of worldwide green-house gas emissions. However, over the years, we have made a lot of progress in reducing the carbon footprint when creating steel. Learn more about what this entails. https://lnkd.in/gabAEWxi #Steelmaking #TitusSteel #ZeroCarbonFootprint #TitusSteel

🏗 Decarbonizing Steel in Construction: Key Considerations The carbon footprint of steel can fluctuate significantly based on factors such as production methods, energy sources, and the utilization of recycled materials. Here are essential factors to monitor for significantly lowering carbon emissions in steel production and its application in construction. ♻ GRUPO SIMEC utilizes 100% post-industrial and post-consumer scrap steel, which is melted down and reused. This results in an estimated carbon footprint of 0.4 tonnes of CO2 per tonne of steel, compared to the traditional production process emitting 1.6 tonnes of CO2 per tonne of steel. #greensteel #recyclematerials #circulareconomy #sustainablefinance
