As we closed out Cybersecurity Awareness Month last week, it's worth drawing a comparison between cybersecurity and hurricane preparedness -both recurring, unpredictable challenges that demand proactive measures. Just as Floridians prepare for hurricane season, businesses need robust cybersecurity plans. The adage, "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure," holds true in both cases. Businesses must adopt a defense-in-depth approach, fortifying their cybersecurity with multiple layers of protection. Much like securing loose objects before a storm, safeguarding consumer data is essential to prevent ripple effects. And when it comes to vulnerabilities, human error is a common one in both scenarios, requiring continuous employee training. Having a well-practiced incident response plan is crucial for addressing breaches swiftly, as both digital threats and hurricanes are ever-evolving challenges. Regular review and adaptation are key, whether it's for hurricane season in Florida or the dynamic cybersecurity landscape in the business world. #cybersecurity #cybersecuritypreparedness #cybersecurityawareness

In tonight’s episode of 60 minutes there was a discussion focused on the rise in ransomeware and #cybersecurity. It specifically focused on recent attacks including MGM, United Healthcare and Colonial pipeline. It focused on the bad actors and the fact that ‘we may be winning the battle, but not the war.’ What I don’t understand is there was NO mention of #identity (although they did talk about the call to the Helpdesk and how the credential got compromised) To me, this is like talking about a hurricane, without mentioning the wind, or a flood without mentioning the rain. If you aren’t investing in #identityandaccessmanagement then folks you aren’t even in the fight. Thoughts?

5 points you should consider when you assess your company's preparedness to handle a significant disruption in operations. This can come from human (insider threat), technological (cyber) and natural (hurricanes) threats. Since it is hurricane season, now is a good time to review your posture. 1. Planning: Are your response plans detailed and up to date? 2. Organization: Do you have enough personnel assigned to critical tasks? 3. Equipment: Are you equipped to detect threats and communicate during emergencies? 4. Training: Have your personnel received role-specific training? 5. Exercises: Has your corporate capability been tested through realistic exercises? Is anyone getting ready for hurricane season? Interested in your thoughts. #riskmanagement #cybersecurity
